Custom gear knob

Cranked up Rhino this evenin. First opportunity I've had. And of course all of my custom V-Ray profiles are borked!
Could only do renders via Rhino's basic built-in renderer unfortunately so a bit naff-looking.....

Also can't help but feel that it could do with being a bit.....fatter? Bigger radius at widest point on the X_Y axis perhaps. Just my own opinion tho. How does it compare to stormwerks knob in that respect?

Myah, best I could muster sadly.
Miffed re. V-Ray profiles. They took aaaaaages to program.
Used to use them back in ship-design days....

They look crisper than the phones I have :D .
Yeah the stormweks is 50mm on the XY OD.
Plus the material arrived today and I ordered 50 dia so that the biggest I can do.

I have loads of Acetal of your did want a bigger one. In navy blue, natural(white) and black.

Or grey PVC, green nylon.

Could anyone show me how this will assemble to the shaft?
The old one essentially clips on, that I know, but this one will use set screws; where does the gear shift boot go? How is it held in place and kept from sliding down?

Was wondering that too after looking at my knob yesterday :o
Not sure if Buckley is planning to provide a separate collar or sheath part that interfaces with the shift gaiter ring in order to keep it in place as you mention.
After playimg around with his cad model any collar would need to locate on the outside surface of the knob shaft as the clearance to fit something between knob and gear shaft is too small.
Buckley, care to elaborate? Any progress?

Hi guy's,
Looking at my gear knob it's quite stubby and the bottom of the knob sits on top of the cover so no need to add anything.

I hope I'm on the right page as to what you are meaning.

Hmm
Progress I am looking to put them on the lathe today, my boss is over from France next month so need to work quick.

Will post a video on YouTube of them being made.

Will do the video tomorrow,
But here are some pictures of the first operation.
Still got to put the round on the back of it and engrave them.

Lookin good

And yeah. Figured out that the gaiter is sandwiched between mating faces of knob and shaft shoulder. Any nasty movement in the gaiter? Or is it nice and secure?

Can you get coloured (or rather, anodised) material at similar cost? Eg: could you make one in a chrome-like red or something?

Not to everyones taste, but I have this currently:

£6.99 from eBay

But would like something better, but in red to keep with my current styling

Just got to engrave them for those who want numbers on.
