Current Market for 35is

Hi All,

I've decided to say goodbye to my Z4 35is. It's been quite a blast.

What's everyone's view on the current market? Clearly on the one hand there are restrictions on buyers travelling outside the local area which would tend to subdue prices, while on the other there aren't many cars for sale which would tend to push prices up.

Go to market now? Or hang fire 'til travel restrictions are relaxed?

FWIW - 2011, 52,000 miles, FBMWSH, very good condition, pretty much all the options, comprehensive BMW Insured Warranty and Roadside Assistance 'til November.

What do you think, folks? Go to market, or hang fire?

Cheers.

If you are in no rush to sell, why not price it where you want, then let the market decide.

The laws of supply and demand will kick in.

Your advantage is not needing a quick sale.

I'd have it listed at a high price for now and start dropping the price if there's no interest before May. With the promise of lifted restrictions on the horizon I think there will be a strong market for convertibles.

The market seems reasonably strong for these and given your location there’s not many available, if any, in Scotland. Myself and Nictrix both had to travel to the midlands for ours in September last year.

Z4’s, new and used are shifting at quite a rate off of BMW’s AUC site as I’ve been keeping an eye on it for a few months now.

With your car’s history and being an AUC car there’s a possibility that a main dealer may buy and resell. That’s what was happening reasonably regularly with clean qualifying cars towards the end of last year.

I’m with R.E92, if you’re going to advertise now do so on the high side to enable you some wriggle room.

Anyway GLWTS whenever you decide to do it

whatever you decide, just bear in mind that it is still against the law for a member of the public to view and/or collect your car.
I know many people are doing it but they are also having house parties. :x

The market for these is strong imo. If you go to market now just make sure you have socially distanced viewings, or video viewings for both parties safety.

What about test drives? How's that gonna work? To abide by "social distancing" you'd need a long rope and pair of roller skates!

The reality is "oh it can't hurt just this once; jump in".

If you waited until it was safer, you would be able to take advantage of the "summer tax" and I have a feeling there will be many people with the attitude of "f*ck it I've had a terrible year I wanna buy a little convertible sportscar" which will only push prices up.

If you are in no rush, list it and price it high. How many 35is are for sale now? Summer on the horizon now is the best time. Good luck.

Apart from it is against the law, unless he has no contact with a buyer (not likely with a private sale).

It's not against the law. You can read the actual law here: https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2020/1374/contents

You'd be forgiven for being ill informed though, the media are doing a poor job of distinguishing between 'government guidance' and law.

I am not reading all that! Maybe my confusion is why we have had 4,500,000 cases of Covid and counting, or is the fact that the "Great" British public are not so great?

I'm not ill informed. I look at the numbers everyday, that's all the information I need.

Just looked again. They are out of date and refer to the tiered restrictions of 2020.

Not wanting to dive into bickering here, just correcting some bold statements you made pertaining to the legality of someone selling their car.

If you read through the law you'd see that nothing forbids you from buying or selling a car. If you had said "Don't sell your car, think of all the dead people" then I'd have no problems with your statement as it's purely opinion. You stated multiple times that it was illegal, which is verifiably false.

The law hasn't changed since, the lockdown was just a reclassification of every region into tier 4. That website is the single point of information you should be concerning yourself with relating to current laws. Ignore anything that contradicts that from the newspapers or facebook.

The OP is in Scotland (from what I can gather), so it's different rules anyway. Wee Jimmy Kranky will probably allow him to do what he likes, as long as he promises to vote leave in her next referendum; cos they gave the wrong answer last time

I didn't say it was illegal to sell your car. It is illegal (as far as I understand) to mix households, either indoors or outdoors. Inviting people to view your car surely constitutes the second (unless you are selling it to a member of your immediate household)?

Just hang back until restrictions are eased and the sun shines - There won't be a great capacity for foreign holidays as they will probably want to see certificates of vaccinations etc etc before allowing entry to the Brits - I think more folk will probably holiday in the UK this year so an open top car might put some icing on the cake

Going to have to disagree with you there. As far as I can remember WJK has without fail had stricter sanctions in place than Boris de Waffle at any point throughout this whole sh!tstorm including the current and possible next stages.

I personally wouldn’t be selling a car just now, nor would I be buying a private sale one either because of the restrictions in place and the inability to carry out either transaction as I’d want to. I definitely wouldn’t be sharing a car with someone outwith my very small bubble

I think you were actually agreeing! I was being sarcastic. WJK (like the abbreviation) has faired MUCH better than Boris (if you wouldn't mind, thanks awfully) Johnson in this whole fiasco IMHO. She does still have an agenda, though! :o
