Cruise control

I've only used it 2 or 3 times on my car but it is good that it automatically slows the car if you get close to another vehicle in front.

However I rarely use it, and the most exciting bit was when I switched it on for the first time and suddenly some lights I never knew existed lit up around the speedo clock.

Perhaps these lights are a reason it's not just a simple module bolt on.

I am not convinced the E89 slows if it gets close to another vehicle whilst CC is engaged???

I use it a lot in roadworks and places where there is a speed limit that doesn't really fit the road in question. I.E. a 40 on a section of Dual Carriageway.

Transmat, you have a unique car if your's is 'active cruise'? The system in the e89 is cruise with braking, in other words, you set a speed and whatever happens up or down hill it maintains it with acceleration or braking. Active cruise is something fitted to the more expensive BMW range and involves radar etc to slow down and speed up.

It could work with the parking sensors but I am not sure the 6 or so feet range would be adequate when traveling at 90mph

Maybe my next Mod, simply wire the Parking sensors into the CC stalk and recode?

"I wasn't tailgating officer - the Cruise Control made me do it"

Yeah be careful Transmat, Active Cruise Control has never been offered as an option on the Z4, so don't trust it to prevent collisions on the motorway - you need your right foot for that!

The Z has Cruise with Brake Function (called Dynamic Cruise Control in some markets) but that has no collision avoidance radar, it just goes off the speed you set it to.

Just got back home from Germany - how I miss that RESUME function when its been on 100+ for a few miles. Its a strange feeling being accelerated back to a decent speed " Look Ma - No hands", well feet I suppose! :D
