Cruise Control Retro-fit

Just found the PDF posted as i'm very interested in fitting the C/control, is it really that easy on pre- 10/04 cars? How much is this kit from BMW (pre-10/04)?

Quite surprised that PDF is still there - not with that Broadband provider anymore!

pre Oct 04 yes really is that easy took me 10 mins! Kit was £150, dealer wanted an additional £150 to fit :o

If you want to double check undo the screw holding the bottom steering cowl, release the steering column adjustment and remove the cowl you should see a redundant plug... CC just slides into the steering column, plugs into that plug and new/modified steering cowl fitted in reverse of removal :D

Think others here have got a different kit to mine and modified the steering cowl themselves... not sure about cost of that one.

Kit I bought from my dealer consisted of:

CC stalk
New Cowl
Wiring for Post Oct 04 cars...

Thanks for that, i'll have to get a quote.

Don't waste your money on the kit. Just buy the switch 61.31.6.940.989 for around £73.62 +VAT and dremel out the lower column housing. It's even cast on the face so you have lines to follow.

If not send it to me and £50 and it will be back next day done....

Even better thanks! I can get BMW discount also. Am i right in believing i don't need a separate piece of wiring, does the existing loom plug straight into the cruise stalk? How does the stalk operate CC, is there any dash warning light that shows the CC engaged?

If you have the plug as in page 2 of this very thread then yes plugs straight in

I've got a CC question for you guys. I have it on my SLK but because it's an auto then if I'm doing 30mph and the cruise speed is set to 70 then the car will change up through the gears by itself to get there.

But how does that work on a manual car, or do you have to be closer to the set speed before you press "resume"?

You have to change gear yourself... if you are set at 70 and your are in 3rd and you press resume the car will just accelerate up to 70 and stay there buzzing around. As soon as you clutch to change gear the system disengages so you would have to press resume again...

Separate wiring depends upon the build date as mentioned above with 10/04 the cut off date. I have the full retrofit pdf and can emal to anyone who needs it - pm me.
Operation is simple IIRC push end button to set at current speed. press away to towards steering wheel to raise or lower speed in increments of about 1mph. push up or down (like an indicator stalk) to cancel it.
No dash indicator and touching the brake cancels it.

I see, cheers :)

Thanks.

Where exactly was this? I have had a look underneath but I cant find it :|

My car was registered december 2004 and in the engine bay it say "BMW Built OCT 04" so I think I should have it there?

I can see the wire going to each existing stalk and a green plug but no spares. Was it tucked up somewhere?

Thanx!

I've just found lying in bed searching the forum for mods is not the best idea! Well, not for the wallet anyway- still it appears so easy it'd be rude not to! What time does that dealer open in the morning ........

Hi guys just been reading the threads regarding fitting the CC,i've had a look and my car is prewired the question is how does the CC switch attach to the steering column or does it attach to the lower steering cowling ??

iv just done mine tonight. took about 20 mins including cutting the cowl. easy peasy!

feels weird at first though!! anyway i didnt bother taking pics as i did it because there is already some kicking about.
