Cruise Control Retro-fit

Looking on Real OEM, there is a note attached to the Cruise control part, and she said that the master cylinder was a note attached to her system. I can't find any master cylinders on Real OEM

Gonna go a check the wiring now in my lunch break....

Refering to my earlier post, about how easy it is to fit on a 04 Z4,, if you want a hand I am only in Kent,, just let me know.

Just had my dealer respond to my query. They have quoted £150 to supply, £300 fitted. They also said there was a note saying that there maybe an enlarged clutch master cylinder required - but she didnt know why that might be! The part number she gave was the same as that from Real OEM :)

So now Im thinking about whether im brave enough to fit it myself or cough up the extra dough!

Any thoughts?
Don't don't don't cough up!

Seriously mate.

£150 to fit - absolutely takin the proverbial.

And enlarged clutch master cylinder required?? WTF!!

Why wasn't cruise control a standard feature? Every street car I've ever encountered has had cruise on it, except high-performance race cars.
Cruise control is still relatively rare in the UK. Mostly because the roads are so congested it's virtually impossible to 'cruise'. However, I did spec it on the Z4.

Some '05 Z4's (built after Feb or March, '05 I think) didn't come pre-wired for the cruise control and it was a PITA to retrofit the CC. But since yours is an '04, it should be a simple plug and play like others have already mentioned.

I have just had a look at the wiring under the steering column cowl... How can I tell if the wiring is there?

Thanks :)

On mine there were two wires taped together, one of them had a small connector (plug) on one end, that is the bit that plugs in your cruise control,, as simple as that.

Sorry to be a pain.. but is this it?

Thanks.

Hi All,

Just thought Id update you all. I picked up the retrofit kit from the dealer this morning. Fitted it in my lunch break and it took me a total of 15 minutes including testing whether it works. Thank you to all who replied it really was simple. The dealer even printed the installation instructions for me :)

Think wondermike said that only cars up to early 2004 can be done, but my kit came with a whole bunch of cables and connectors for cars manufactured after Oct 2004. The installation instructions also covered installing these cables etc. Looked like a MUCH more involved job. I could scan them in if people are interested?

Now all I gotta do is find some clear roads to use it on :driving:

Thanks again

well done sir... good success story.. !

does it say anywhere in ur docs it definitely doesn't work on the M? I've given up hope completely but a final nail in the coffin may ease my mind =)

It doesn't mention the M at all. The instructions are aimed at coupe and roadster. There are some references to the difference engine codes but I cant see the S54 (thats correct isnt it?) engine mentioned - also can't see the parts on Real OEM :(

I can scan them in if you want to read them, just let me know.

If you could scan and post that would be very helpful, Im sure im not the only post facelift owner that wants to retrfit

thanks

Absolutely categorically can't be retrofitted to an M car - doesn't have the loom/socket and those aren't easily retrofitable and something about the engine control electronics too. I made an AUC deal dependant upon fitting cruise to an M. Dealer master technician researched every which way and worked with BMW UK they stated in the end 'no' and dealer showed me the email. I walked away from the deal and bought one factory fitted with cruise - the only way.
