crackle/pop

Having been in a t350 with sports exhaust popping and crackling on the overrun how the hell am I going to tell myself its never going to happen in my z4mc , its a trade off between reliability/abs/dsc/that engine and the wonderful sound of a tvr t350 and no certain reliability/abs etc.

Plus the T350 is quite a bit more to buy in the first place...

Does sound nice though, one drove through Cheddar Gorge when I was walking there, sounded pretty epic!

Plenty of options with the M exhaust though surely? I have the bypass and its nice and raspy, poppy, sounds great.

Point taken , they are ' holding value' . Someone at northants tvr club has a t350 with an LS 7 in which is frigging mental , its black as well !

Remove the cats and silencers and you'll get plenty of noise/pops/crackles.

I get that with just the Diablo backboxes, so any more stripping and it will be ear-splitting

anyone experienced fitting the fabspeed z4m headers...
sounds pretty good on the net...

How easy is it to take the cats out , and will it reduce power ?

How are they different to the UK's Z4M manifolds, which don't have cats like the US ones do anyway?

You just unbolt the two ends of the cat pipe and put a race cat/bypass in.

Options are for race cats...

...or a complete bypass...

Neither are road legal, so you'd have to swap them out at MOT time.

So you need a race cat bypass if you remove the cats ? Where do you get them from and how much ? And do you get a power reduction ?

You'd be able to get some bypass pipes or race cats from Prospeed in Cardiff. I've never used them myself, but quite a few Z3MC owners have and rate their work. You should gain power, that's why racers delete the cats. They're a doddle to swap over on your car but unless you are prepared to do the swap before and after each MOT, it would be a pain and get expensive if you don't DIY.

Has any one just removed the back boxes and put straight through tail pipes ? Iwas going to do the bypass mod when this was suggested not sure about the look with out the twin boxes also may be a little to loud ,iam looking for a fair bit more noise as my last car was a 996 with sports exhaust ,but don't wont to spend a fortune or keep changing boxes every mot

I am in the same boat I would like more noise too the exhaust can never be to loud for me after my TVR, I keep looking at exhausts on the Internet but they are proving pricey, I read a post on piston heads about the e60 m5 & the rear boxes are huge similar to the zeds, surely when you buy an M car you want to be able to hear it!

It seems the only time you can hear a M car is when you rev the backside off it which isn't a hardship but it would be nice to hear some intent lower down the rev band.

Me!

The Rogue Diablo rear boxes have no baffles.

We'll have to meet for espresso again and then take each other out so you can hear the difference

Yeah that would be good see if we could get few more to come a long it's the crap weather that could be a putt off for some but you never know I was looking for a cheap option as still smarting from the last investments in a car

I've got a near £500 bill coming for 2 rear PSS's in the next month - although I can't complain as I've had 20,000 miles out of them

My before & after soundclips are on youtube (all recorded at the same relative positions, with the same equipment)...

holy s**t!! well done!!
do you change them for trips to the ring
No, I use them for everything. Spring, summer, autumn, winter, 'Ring trips, Welsh hoons, etc.

The OEM Conti's lasted about half that time doing the same job.

I suppose I'm not the fastest or most aggressive on the 'Ring so don't tend to eat tyres or pads there. The majority of the remainder of my driving is mostly motorway, dual-carriageway which don't take a lot of life out of them either.

Well worth it for the 25% premium over the OEM Conti M3s.

That's fine for the markets that have the restricted/catalyst manifolds, but do they offer any improvement over non-restricted/catalyst UK/EU ones?
