Cracked Manifold URGENT help.

Guys,

Youve been great with advice so far so here goes...

I have a cracked manifold and placed the replacement part on order as it needed to come from Germany. After 3 weeks of waiting I called the garage to see what was happening? I was told that the part cannot be got? I called BMW and was told the same. I was told that the supplier was no longer and there was no replacement supplier? I have an MOT due in a month and clearly this will fail. Considering the car is 08 im shocked these parts are so rare or hard to come by? Any help or ideas?

I am willing to pay whatever to get this problem sorted. Thanks

Could get your manifold welded up! Or check breakers for a replacement! I can weld it for you but I am probably miles away and I am off on holiday Wednesday.

I can't help but I anticipate someone asking you

which engine?

I would suspect a 2ltr by the sound of it. Can't believe that there is no replacement part

Hope another member can assist you

I am guessing a 2.0? Mine is in a dealers. Been there for two weeks so far as they try and source a manifold from Germany. If they can't find one no idea what happens as its am AUC car. Have bmw told you it's not available?

It seems unbelievable. What do they do, give you your money back?

I have had a manifold welded before. It wasn't expensive.

I cannot believe that its not available....

All car manufacturers are legally bound to supply spares for there cars for a minimum of 10 years after date of manufacture.

Maybe the 2.0 guys will get lucky & have a brand new manifold installed from a 3.0 & the engine to match :)
that would be a result

Welding them is not always a great fix as the heat can cause stress and cracks somewhere else. It will get you through the mot. How's about an after market manifold costly though!!

Guys,

Thanks for the massive feedback. The car is a 2.0l. You guys were correct. yes im being told the part is unavailable and BMW cant give me a date for when it will be available. I was told by BMW today that if the MOT expires to leave it at home until the part is in? I of course dont have any other cars to choose from!!

mm, the guys that welded my saab turbo manifold had the whole thing sitting in a big gas burner and glowing an orange red before they started on the welding and it worked okay for the lifetime of the gearbox. £35. twenty years ago.

Maybe worth giving these a try http://www.quarrymotors.co.uk/ or http://www.douglasvalley.co.uk/results.asp?spg=83&pgid=2&page=0&filter=&sort=

Don't think I will be overly happy if they suggest a weld as a repair. Tbh the dealers have been great with the courtesy car and phone every few days so I don't over fill with fuel an have to return it! But I am now a little worried after reading OP :o

For fecks sake can't believe BMW have said the parts unavailable :headbang: :headbang:

If the car was bought from a dealer within the last 6 months then I would be legally handing it back to them and taking my money and walking.

That's the way to do it. Not many places will have that facility! I would want anyone working on it to at least heat it up with a flam so it was cherry red.

I also have a cracked Exhaust manifold, I've been waiting for six weeks for a replacement from BMW. What other manifolds are available for the 2.0L engine.
I am also appalled that BMW are leaving owners without proper spare parts for their cars. Especially this part, that has given owners so much trouble over the years.

Quick update on my position. Just had a call from the dealer. BMW have informed them that there is a wait for the part so are sending one of their own hire cars (no idea what) next Wednesday for me to use and i will return the E89 i am using to the dealer. This makes me think it may be another few weeks before the manifold issue is resolved. But BMW have said to the dealer that the part will either be sourced or manufactured so fingers crossed.
For me this has absolutely highlighted the benefit of an AUC warrenty on a used car. If i didnt have that in place this would be costing a fortune. :o
