I agree, but at the same time should the driver not tell the person not to sign without opening the package first? I know the document says arrived in good condition but 9 times out of 10 the courier puts the package down and says "please sign here". How many times have you seen a courier say "please open the package, inspect it, then sign that it is in good order"?

The truth is that at fedex the lorries were unloaded, And the delivery vans were loaded by dock workers. Unless the damage to the package is very obvious the driver may not even see it. At fedex If the delivery drivers saw a damaged package they were trained to alert the customer. We would rather have a few claims than lose customers.
At the same time we as customers need to be proactive. Would one be inclined to buy a car without inspecting it first?
