Couple of questions

I have a couple of newbie questions that I am hoping someone can help me out with:

1. What is the wallet key for that comes with the car? I tried mine this morning and it unlocks the car door but when I open the car door the car alarm off goes off.

2. On the SatNav display what are the circles with a dot in the middle?

Thanks,

John.

1. I can open the door and start the car with the wallet key. Everything works fine with that, no idea why yours does not
2. That is the village centre as far as I have made out

As I always have that key on me (in case I lose the main one), is that the reason why I always want to valet the car? 8)

Damn, I never got one :? . Is that a one-time issue, or can you get another one made using the master key code? I'm really paranoid about losing my key and still have not found a magnetic key box big enough to fit the spare in.

Any key can be re-ordered, but it will be expensive though ... You can not just copy the master key as the plastic key still contains the immobiliser element. A normal copy will not be able to start the car.

ORLY???? - you should have received on on delivery.
I don't see why they can't get one for you... likely have to be ordered in though.

I'm the 2nd owner and I never got the plastic key :x , didn't know about it to ask. I"ll call my local BMW and see how much - Thanks!

Did you get the bag with the coloured key labels and the VIN number? My plastic key was in that bag ...

I got mine off lease with only 1 key. I bought the another fob key and then the "valet" key. Those two keys came to something like $300.

Funny, Americans think of a guy that parks your car when you say valet (or a manservant). It wasn't until I came here that i learned the other definition.

John, the alarm goes off because the Spare key (plastic) does not disable the alarm. If you unlock your car with the spare key after setting the alarm with your normal key, all you need to do is put the spare key in the ignition and turn to position 2 to disable the alarm. All BMWs that I have owned are like that.

Here is a blurb from the manual:

The key set
1 Master keys with remote control –
determine the functions of the Key
Memory, refer to page 37.
You can mark individual keys for subsequent
identification by applying the colored
decals that you received when
accepting delivery of your vehicle
There is an extended-life battery
in every master key that is
charged automatically in the ignition
lock as you drive.
For this reason, if you have a master key
with remote control that is otherwise
not used, use that key approximately
once a year while driving for an
extended period to charge the battery.<
2 Spare key for storage in a safe place,
such as in your wallet.
This key does no open the lock of the
luggage compartment lid – useful for
valet parking, for example.
This key is not intended for constant
use
