coupe stranded

the highways have surface dressed the road outside my place today wirh tar and two layers of chippings the large fistr layer was rolled in then a finer chip was layered on top, they sweep and vacuum up the excess after 24 hours. so the coupe is stranded foe a few days at least, ...too risky  they have earmarked a lot of roads around us in the next few weeks,

God I hate it when they use that road dressing.

Nothing worse than just driving along and then being forced onto a section that's new and fresh, with cars just flying down in the opposite direction flicking stones everywhere in their company A3 1.6tdis.

Grrrrr

Appreciate your dismay, but I do find this hilarious - we go on and on and on and on and on and on and on about the state of our roads, then the local authority takes a sensible, cost effective approach to sorting them out for a while..... and we moan because of the possibility of a few stone chips or having to park the car up for 24hrs.

I don't mind them doing the roads, it's the MUPPETS coming the other way doing about 50mph that get my goat.

Had a new windscreen fitted recently because of all the stones on the road. Literally a week later roads were resurfaced & had a huge artic thunder by, spraying stones everywhere - was so miffed I wanted to turn round & say something but the whole of the traffic opposite was doing exactly the same... rant rant rant... Feel better now

Well ok, but maybe the situation is more :( or  than

I will stop being a smilie pedant now :D

they've just done every junction near my house, including all of the ones on my road.. including adding a new pedestrian crossing 5m from my front door and putting anti-skid there too.

I'd be interested to see how it performs vs decent clean tarmac.

Took about a week or two before i stopped hearing stones fly about.

problem with that surface is it doesn't "sort" the road. its just a patch up quick fix. it doesn't usually fix the underlying problems with the road/potholes/flooding/ bits that have collapsed etc

Not sensible if you are a civil engineer. False economy. They should plane off and re-lay the base course and wearing courses properly (or at least wearing course) for a pukka job. Spray tar and chip doesn't seal well as the edges are just feathered in and water/frost gets underneath fairly quickly resulting in patches letting go within a year or two sometimes less. Looks nice and neat when first done but you get what you pay for.

Of you are talking about other road users hurtling down resurfaced roads and flicking chips up into you when you are riding a bike then your point is well made. However this thread was started by the OP talking about driving his car on those roads. I was simply 'laughing' at the contradiction between moaning about the roads being sh1te and then moaning when something is done about it, even if it is (as pointed out above) only a reasonably temporary fix.

try hurtling down the road on your arse/back/neck when the loose chippings sort of fail to grip a cornering motorcycle, done this myself, not speeding or reckless riding either,it hurts boy.

"Boy" ? I hope that was simply a turn of phrase rather than a derogative...

Were you doing the 20mph advised by the signs they put out when they resurface the roads ? If so I'm surprised, though as I am not a bike rider then I cannot comment further. Glad you're ok.

...and remember all 20mph is the maximum speed you should be travelling at in those circumstances.

point taken bing we all moan, and we would love racetrack grade surfaces to hoon on. they didnt bother to replace the patches of missing tarmac before they sprayed and chipped so this is a cheap fix and i know we have no money for much at present but a failure of consecutive goverments to properly maintain the roads through the 30 billion raised through ved yet only spending 6 billion on the roads. the local council here spent 30,000 on pot plants for their offices , now that is annoying !!!, we have all seen the turf laying company vehicles completely covered in astro turf type fake grass, ... they wont have a stone chip problem.... hmmmm, anyone know the square meterage of an M coupe ? :tumbleweed:

 pot plants - for that amount of money I'd hope it's quality pot :D

Have to say, I went srhutch's a few weeks ago and they had done the same to some long stretches of road on the way, all fresh, lots of loose chippings, just took it easy. Went down the same roads on Thursday and they are very nice now... However I know that they will last only till the winter :(
