Was wondering what bike racks people with coupes are using,I used a hollywood on my old a4 saloon but dont think that type would fit the sloping back?

Hi, I use a Sirrus Bones rack.

2 feet rest on the rear screen, 1 on either side of the boot badge / handle. Only a small amount of weight on the rear screen and after 1000 miles + and speeds up to 80mph no problems at all.

I have some pics from past threads if you do a quick search :)

Wills, where did you get your Saris Bones from and did you need any extra? Ive got a Saris Sentinal which worked fine on the roadster but not 100% happy with the fit on the coupe.

I bought it online, I forget whete from but reputable retailer.

Just needed 2 sirrus boot huggers & good to go..

Thanks. I'll check it out and include the huggers in my plans

I suppose with a coupe, you need to own a pushbike really.

Only to remind me what life is like without 340+ horses at my disposal feels like

I was thinking the same ........ the things you have to do to get your head in the wind when you own a Coupe.....

I currently looking at buying a coupe, but being able to carry a bike is important. I currently use a towbar mounted bike rack which is great [takes 5 seconds to fit!] Has anybody fitted a towbar [removable obviously!] to their Z4?

There is a photo of one somewhere
it seems they have not been homologated for the UK.
annoying because a towbar could be pretty handy.

Its seems that you're right. But I have just found this which could be a great option. I dont know enough about Z4's yet to see any complications though...

My previous car, a Seat Ibiza, wasn't homologated for a towbar despite (engine/springs/dampers aside) being identical to bog-standard Ibizas. I bought the correct detachable towbar and fitted it myself for bike rack purposes. My insurance company was fine with that although others might not be (car was also out of warranty so no issue there).

It was a very discreet installation on my Ibiza and if the Z4 detachable towbar is anything like that - and I didn't have my campervan to transport bikes - I'd have looked at fitting one to the Z4.

Edit: I'd be going with the Bird installation over a towbar though - brilliant idea. I've seen them fitted to Lotus Elises before and it looked a good bit of kit.

Comes to £383 in delivery but plus import tax. I'm not sure my frustration with standard racks warrants that much money...

Cant say I seen any receiver pipes?

The receiver pipes are supplied with the rack.

The Z4 was never designed to have a towbar, hence why you will have trouble finding one esp that has any type of approval.

Has anyone fitted one of the Bird Automotive racks, using the receiver pipes mounted underneath the car? Any problems?

The last post on this seems to be two years ago. I posted a reply yesterday but can't see it now. Has anyone installed a Bird Automotive bike rack on a 2006 Z4 roadster? (Or any other year for that matter). Installing the two receiver pipes under the back of the car and then simply inserting the rack into the pipes without touching the body work just seems such a great idea. I tried to call the UK number shown on the birdautomotive.com site yesterday and a guy called me back from the US later in the day. It all sounds great but I would like to hear of any other experiences before parting with my hard earned cash!!
