Coupe 3.0si Real World MPG

Thanks Nicko.

That's actually pretty good IMHO for a 3 litre sports car. Does it depend on the age of the car too? i.e. were engine revisions completed during the Coupe's life?

The engine revisions for the Z4 line-up happened in 2006 which is the year the coupe came out (with the new engines). Power upped from 231 HP to 265. Economy figures are slightly higher on paper though can't comment on real world.

The engine stop-start technology is the "efficient dynamics" thing I think and wasn't introduced until a couple of years ago. It certainly won't feature on any BMW on a 56-plate. Not sure if they actually put them into production on the last old-shape z4's produced before the current model (which I think does have the stop-start but could be wrong)

Is it correct that there were only 2750 coupes in the UK? Do you happen to know how that is divided between M's and Si's? Any idea how many there are in the world?

Not sure about in the UK - but someone on here knows as they kindly told me there were 115 Stratus Grey Coupes (Si).

That figure would seem about right as this is from Wiki:
Over the Z4 E86 life cycle (2006–2008), only 12,819 Z4 coupés (E86) were produced worldwide, as well as 4,275 Z4M coupés,[6] yielding a total of 17,094 coupés (Z4 and Z4M).

I have the figures at home, I think they may be slightly higher, but with right offs i would think by now there are less than 2750 on the road (UK)

Holy thread revival batman!! :o

How are you measuring that? Have you reset the computer or are you doing it via fuel used?

What sort of driving?

20 mpg does seem quite low. I averaged around 24-25 ish on the Z4OC run out a few months ago and that was [laying keep up with the ///Ms

Check air filter, that could cause increased fuel consumption if dirty

I used the search function ;)

I'm going off the computer and the fact I can see the needle going down over a short period. I was hoping the tank was tiny, but it's not.
It's new, so obviously it's getting a rag! But I've been on a long motorway run and only managed to get to 22...

Oh and it's not too long had a service but I'll check filter

What sort of driving are you doing? Is it mostly short journeys?

I take it you have reset the computer before each journey?

I'm amazed at the MPG of the 3.0 engine constantly. But the short journeys kill it. I was averaging 38.7 on a run down from Manchester, hit traffic on the M25 dropped to 31 in a hour or so.

Wow, some crazy results on there, like 60mpg!

Well, 60mpg is ridiculous, but you should definitely be struggling to get 21-22 unless you spent your entire life doing donuts in multi storey car parks.

Are tyre pressures ok? How about any other engine niggles? Hesitation, stuttering etc? Make sure the DTC button is pressed once - and be careful - as the traction control can mask hesitation problems.

Ok will check hesitation, but it feels grand.

I reset computer at the dealers and by the next morning it was on 16mpg.
I went to work (dual carriageway) and it was back up to 20.
Went out for the day yesterday, more dual carriageway and steady 55 and it's on 22mpg

I'll reset again....

Let me be honest, the first 100 miles were probably using every last rpm in every gear, well until I hit 70mph of course...

This may the root cause??? ;)

My mate bought a Boxter S recently and complained of 11Mpg average. He had his foot to the floor, to the redline every time.

Just been out.
Reset the computer and saw 17mpg in stop start traffic to the shops, then managed to pull it back by going 65 on the cruise control on a dual carriageway to 40. So clearly it's not broken ;)

Anyway a few more mixed trips it's now on 27.
Seems it loves steady state cruising.

I have been calculating mine since day 1, I have 28.17mpg, mine is auto and has 15.700 miles on the clock

I seem to get around 27mpg with around the town driving, 32-36mpg with dual/motorway driving. Normally I get 270-300 miles to a tank, sometimes a tad more.
