Suddenly realised I've never been before, so thought I might nip down in June and try a weeks holiday.

Anyone suggest a good place to stay or a good website with holiday rentals?

I'm looking for a modern apartment, preferably with sea views in a small town with a few pubs and restaurants within walking (staggering) distance. With a parking space.

Cornwall is lovely, just that the roads are soooooo narrow over there which is what really puts me of going there. Next time I am taking a rental car when I go there.

We rent a house in St Just for a fortnight in August. Loads of accommodation in this area. Great little place. Town square is always bustling with 3 pubs, shops, bakery (pasties! ) etc. 10 mins walk from Cape Cornwall. Gwynver Beach is 10 mins away in car for bodyboarding and is dog-friendly. Also Sennen Cove, Lands End and St Ives are close by. Don't forget your fishing trip out of Penzance.....fantastic! Can't wait now!

Thoroughly recommend Pednolver Apartments in St Ives, go for Apartment 4 which is the penthouse, it has a sun terrace overlooking the town and bay, breathtaking.

Not cheap, but you get what you pay for! Been there twice recently, the area is fantastic with loads of good restaurants and pubs/bars.

Love st Ives, been going for years-it's very busy and not many places have parking so for the last few years we've been staying at Carbis bay which has a great 20min coastal walk to st Ives which is full of restaurants/pubs

We stayed at Mount Brioni which is within walking distance of Looe, at Seaton. Some of the apartments are really modern, the one we stayed in was less so, but was comfortable and clean, and there is a personal parking spot around the back. Couple of pubs/eateriries within walking distance, and the beach is literally a stone throws away (see video) http://www.mountbrioni.co.uk/

Have also stopped in Rocklands in Newquay which is really nice, we had an excellent view over the beach below, and again there is private parking in the basement for your Zed to keep her safe, easy walk down to the harbour and a Pizza express in the same block for tea.. http://www.rocklandsnewquay.co.uk/

I would say as a base, Mevagissey is fantastic as there are loads of pubs and restaurants. Easy access for days out.

Another vote for St Ives. Have been to Cornwall every year for a week for the,last 12 years or so. Been to most parts but St Ives is our favourite.

People do love St Ives. Bit too busy for me. But plenty to do what ever the weather. St Just is a charming place, as long as you get good weather again you'can get there from St Ives in 30mins. Be sure to seek out a few coastal tin mines.

Newquay is a tourist honey pot for youngsters, night life there is like any other town up and down the country. Day time it's a prety boring place unless your a surfer, in which case you have plenty to do. Bedruthan steps and Watergate bay are both worth a Google for better places to stay if your looking at the area North of there.

The South coast has many picturesque Fishing villages. Looe Polpero, Fowey, Mevagissy, Charlston, Mullion & Porthlevan all have the traditional mix of local pubs, guest houses, coastal walks, stunning views and friendly people. The Minack theata Porthcurno is a must see. I think you have to book these days

Best roads... well your a bit stuffed in June. As soon as you are West of Bodmin, they are all full of tourist traffic. If you stick to the east of the County then there are some crackers, plenty wide enough for PVR and with very little traffic right through the year.

Where ever you choose, it's a great place and the pace of life is errr different to the rest of the country. Didn't get in from surfing untill 6pm tonight. :wink:

I know what you mean, I'm kinda looking for a shed for these kind of duties but it needs to be reliable for the motorway jaunts. I'm torn between some kind of hatch for the narrow roads but an estate for carrying all the crap down would be useful too...

Hi buzyg, I've been harbouring (see what I did there?) a desire to move to Cornwall (when I retire & no longer have to commute to London) for a while now, but as much as I love the place I think the tourists would hack me off-I'm starting to think it would be better to leave it as a holiday destination?

Take a look at the mk1 Mazda 3 Sport. Cheap as chips, very reliable, decent size hatch great chassis and brakes & as fast as my ///M down the local C roads. cos you can see the front of the car is.

Just find somewhere East off Bodmin houses are cheaper, roads are far far less crowded in the summer and the people are just as friendly. I currently commute 9 miles each way in the rush hour. takes me less than 15 minutes door to door, including crossing the Tamar Bridge. Planning on moving out of the suburbs when we retire, but will be looking somewhere around Launceston Bude area, base on the above and the great surf beaches . Plus the weather up that way is genuinely better than the rest of the County as it's a little bit away from the Moors. 8)
