Converting a Z4M to an automatic ????? Blasphemy !

I just re-read the thread from the start and it's a very theoretical concept to date, beginning when the OP bought an Automatic 3.0Si Coupe because an SMG M3 was out of budget.

Perhaps a good starting point would be to get a ride in any S54 engined car, or better still have a drive in an SMG M3 to at least be sure he liked the S54!

I love it but inexplicably some don't, and if the OP fell into that category the whole idea becomes academic.

Personally I'd make a compromise somewhere! If I was desperate for an Auto E86 I'd have what the OP has - it's not like a 3.0Si is slow! But if I was desperate to have an S54 with an Auto I'd get an SMG M3. If my priority was Auto with M performance I'd get an E89 35is, or possibly an E91 DCT M3.

I realise it's great to think what combination of BMW bits you'd like in your car but one-off projects like that seem to usually end up being money-pits, especially if you aren't doing any of the work yourself!

Anyway I'm off to look for a Z8 Coupe with an S85 V10 and manual gearbox.

I`ll have one of those too but I will have to find an auto box to fit it

So now we need to find two of them?

Can't be *that* hard to swap an auto into a z4m.. I'd say find some capable guys and go for it. Life is short, party hard!

Most things are achievable if you have the knowledge and / or the money . Unfortunately I have neither  Great to see the updates on your project Vanne

How about one of these?

In view of what the OP has said about money I think that is probably out of budget somehow!

Dynotorque in Birmingham would probably do it. Craig is fitting a BMW auto box to the Honda K24 turbo engine in his RX8 track car.

Great engines . There is a guy local to me running a K20 in a 6R4 replica

most people want to go the other way when they get an SMG car.

SMG to manual is not too bad to do. it's what the CSL should have been, manual!!

Awful video, but for the auto haters here's an 8HP70 in an R33 Skyline proving that they can work pretty damn well
