Continental Sports contact 7’s

Been running them on my daily for a week now on the 6er. First impression is high grip, a bit noisy and high rolling resistance, which is clearly levelling out as they’re breaking in. Running them a bit overinflated still, but way smoother ride compared to the Dunlop RFs.

So boys and girls how are the SC7s checking out?

Cut my lap times through the Costa drive through by 1.9 seconds… pretty happy here :driving:

Splendid..maybe suggest Tyre Reviews adds that to their testing criteria

Took the run out to Gaydon on them. Gave me a heart flutter when the NSR indicated a drop in pressure but, on inspection, possibly my fault for not resetting the system after having had the tyres fitted, as the drop in pressure was very minimal. In fact, the front were running slightly high and the ride quality is definitely improved over the bridgestones. And they look nicer, which is always important.

I’m relieved to see that the ‘prettynest’ of the tyre is scoring well

Been running mine for a month now, 4wd f13. Mostly commuting and one longish roadtrip, including some sprited legs. Never even close to the edge, driving like granny most of the time, but consistent good grip. Definitely high rolling resistance. Pressures going up over 3 psi during a fifteen minute commute only. Lowered the pressures to those recommended by BMW but kind of liked the tyres more when somewhat overinflated — will continue experimenting.

A run out from rural Cambridgeshire through the Cotswolds and on to Wiltshire has given the tyres a bit more than the ‘prettiness’ grading. Some good, some poor and some truly dreadful road surfaces. The Contis are so much better than the RFTs, but then I’m thinking any half decent rubber would have improved the E89s ride.
Handling and grip is good, especially noticeable in the potentially slippy new rain full (after long dry spell), with no twitching. So far, so good.
Oh, and they definitely look good. I’ve been asking.

I think you hit the nail on the head - feels like any non RFT tyres will get you 90% of the improvement in ride quality.

You don't need the very best possible UHP tyre to get the big benefits.

The last bit is preference and day dreaming. I'm not sure any road driver will notice much difference between any of the premium options.

I went Mitchelin Pilot Sport 4S as that is what BMW fit to their performance cars, and I had had them before & been pleased. Likely would feel much the same with the goodyear assymetrics or the conti sport 7.

The flip is that you only change tyres once every couple of years, and it might be £500 for a set of the more value oriented tyres, or £750 for a set of the premium versions.

For me - I spend the little extra & pretend I notice. I know if I went with the value tyres I would think I noticed the cheapness :) even if I didn't.

If anyone still has doubts about these tires, you shouldn’t. After 1000 km I can tell that they work extremely well and were tested by me and my dad(he was skeptical before driving but after driving he loves them). I can only tell about performance driving but this is why you buy z4 anyway.
