Very true. Allegedly you can drive from London to Edinburgh in well under 4 1/2 hours if you leave at around midnight and the motorway is empty. It's been suggested to me, however, that it might consume as much as two tanks of fuel in a 225 TT...

It's also alleged that a certain e34 M5 did Rolls Royce Filton to Liverpool in about 90 mins at 3am once after a client kept the driver in the office very late :driving:

Supposedly it didn't need filling up on the way back either.

I've heard allegations of Exeter to London in 2h, and of Portsmouth to London (70 miles of A3) in about forty five minutes...
Strange how these stories are spread :)

If France is anything to go by - then yes. So much more relaxing to put it at about 90 and it saves so much time on longer journeys. When my parents visit me, it takes them 3 hours to get to Calais (they stick to the limits). I do the same journey in 2 hours...

So true love cruising through France does help the roads are quiet so no twats jumping into a gap that is not there causing you to brake hard could never cover the distance i do in France over here in the same time.

Even better at night when the police have all gone home to bed.

I just get the feeling its to late, it strikes me that most people actually seem to be slowing down on the motorways these days probably due to fuel costs, it used to be that if you stuck to 70 everyone would go past you but I find now if I stick the cruise on at 70 I probably ovetake 60-70% of the traffic, but then that could be as there is very little difference between my Sat Nav and my Speedo, so maybe as lacroupade says most speedos are so inaccurate that everyone else thinks they are doing 70 when they are only doing 60, who knows, but it will probably coincide with a clamp down on speeding.
