Looking forward to collecting tomorrow

So this £4800 car is the car you offered me for £6500 the other day.

Is that how it works on this forum?

Yep, but before you go off on one its a project car for me as it needs work and then hopefully I'll sell it on

What work does it need? Apart from an Inspection 2 service and seat refurbishement, I didn't see anything off last year.

Without shying away from this, the car needs work ie servicing, a replacement wheel a front wing repaint and I'm sure a few other bits. No one had showed any interest so I contracted the seller and a price was agreed. I was honest with him what I wanted the car for and he wasn't bothered. In hindsight I should've done the work and then offered it up for sale.

Not being funny! But Eddie has brought a car that needs work! He is in the body work repair industry ( I know he has fixed my car to a great standard!) so he fixes it using his hard earned skills! Then sells it at market value?
Why shouldn’t he do this? Should electricians or plumbers work for free?

I don’t think it’s an issue of community it’s just a guy taking on a gamble using his skill set. Trying to earn some cash? Isn’t it what we all try and do at work?

Totally agree here, if the car was bought for £X why can’t it be sold for £Y? Ed’s bought a project car, which others could have done, going to do some work on it and move it on, it’s not anything to do with the seller anymore, even if it didn’t need any work he can sell it for whatever he wants, no one would complain if he sold it for less than he bought it for, if someone thinks the price is too high they can easily walk away, top entrepreneur imo

Thanks guys, I'm sure if those that commented new the full story they might not have said anything. My mistake was that I thought there was an opportunity to sell the car to a newbie on here once I'd completed the work. Having said that the car is in fine condition and was there for anyone to buy .

The new owner can do what he likes, it’s his car to sell.

Let’s just say I wasn’t expecting this to be a community where members were looking to make a quick profit off each other. That’s not how other enthusiast forums I’m a member of operate, or not obviously anyway.

I know better now, so as you were.

The issue is the forum rules imply items purchased via the forum can't be sold for a profit.

We've had the discussion regarding vehicle values and resale and its a bit of a Grey area, I guess.

He is fixing a car with flaws? What are your talents what can you do for me? For free? I don’t get your point at all?!

Before you go all judgemental & paint yourself as wronged id do some homework on the marketplace you're considering buying into .
Ie you go find yourself a decent example 3.0si (Sport not se) in good colour combo with under 70k covered & no immediate spend required ( & i know Ed quite well , he's more likely to spend £6600 total & sell it for £6500 )
At which point you may then realise that £6500 for what was offered to you is under market rate , if i was selling that car id be wanting at least £7k if not more .
Anyhow as you were , you go buy yourself a 90k donkey for £6k then start spending

If you can’t get that buying a car with issues. Fixing them and making it a better car! Shouldn’t require more money? I don’t think we could possibly even to begin to discus the point?!

This is where I don't get the whole not selling for profit on the forum if its bought from the forum.
If you buy a car this year and for whatever reason the prices go through the roof the next year why shouldn't you be able to make a profit.
The fact it was possibly bought from the forum and then sold on the forum shouldn't really matter as long as the buyer is happy with what they are paying.
Why shouldn't something like this not be allowed where a car is put back to good condition for a small profit.

Ahh but you are applying common sense to the debate , that's where things get tricky :P

Joined for two days and already whingeing with zero knowledge of the forum or anyone on it.

Perhaps taking some time to get to know the job before making rash statements based on nothing.

Ah fair enough. I must have missed something as the wing looked good and so did the wheels. I have definitely missed out how old this thread was though. Good luck flipping it, I get too attached to ever make any profit on a car I own ;)

re: Lynchy "No one had showed any interest so I contracted the seller"
I've used the forum to try and arrange to see the car, with cash, this coming Saturday. As I'm a newbie I can't PM!
The seller hasn't got back to me and now I know why.
