Colour choice

Hi all, new here, I’m looking at a Saturn silver (bronze/champagne sorta) Z4 e89 that ticks the boxes but I’m not 100% sold on the colour yet as was looking at Melbourne red ones before this came up. In the evening sun that silver colour comes into its own but not sure about other times.

I was curious what people think of that Saturn silver colour? Is that colour possibly more popular/associated with older folk? (No offence, sorry! for those who might have it!) It seems a rare colour on autotrader, meaning unpopular? so could be a challenge to move it on eventually?

There are a few colour options in your poll missing (including the saturn silver). There was the beautiful (!) Havana Brown and right at the end of production was Estoril Blue.

Never seen a saturn silver E89 TBH, so was probably unpopular, like custard yellow (sorry atacama) and Havana.
On the plus side unpopular then equates to 'rare' now, so not all bad.

Melbourne suits the E89, as does DSB and VO IMO.

Alpine white is still my favourite for an E89 as it shows off the swage lines so well (but may change my mind to Estoril very soon).

FYI most people on here are not in the first flush of youth, depending on your demographic take of 'old folk'. The average age on here is around late 50s IIRC.

It was the official launch colour..looks like your pics come from the launch in Spain…

It’s a pretty rare colour numerically…

Like many metallics it’s apparent colour changes markedly depending on light and angle etc..

It’s not marketed as a ‘special’ colour by most folks..

Of course yellow is one of the least depreciating colour…

If you can get the spec, condition and mileage in that colour then why not..?

Probably one of my least favourite colours although most other colours suit the E89. The M Sport with 19 inch 326m alloys looks perfect and mine was in Melbourne red, whereas an SE with 17 inch alloys just looks odd! All IMHO of course.

I just had to vote for Valencia Orange as it is stunning. But I really like Melbourne Red and Deep Sea Blue as well.

But if a Saturn Silver one ticked all the boxes on condition, spec, etc, the colour wouldn't put me off!

That's the way I look at cars aswell. There will be now so many E89s which are knackered or unloved, or used and abused, etc, that condition, history, mileage and spec will always take priority over colour for me.

The colour you’re talking about can take a long time to shift if you choose to sell in future… so that might tell you what you want to know about the colour’s popularity :thumbsdown:

Certainly don’t pay a premium for that colour.

I’ve seen a couple in the metal and they didn’t do it for me, but we’re all different.

Not sure about Saturn silver but the picture looks the same colour as mine which is orion silver. I was a bit hesitant to start with but it's really grown on me now. Depending on the light it seems to change shades between gold and silver.

Have one in this colour round the corner to me .
It’s a lovely car , but I’d definitely choose red over that all day long…. That said, I wouldn’t switch my mineral grey/red leather for any other colour. You’re age screams red I’m 62 and it’s still screaming red

VO, followed by Estoril blue, yellow and the white which really does show the car off well.

Red is a great colour and far better than silver or black IMHO

Estoril Blue is beautiful on a Z4, Mineral Grey looks great too.

I voted Valencia Brown, obviously...

I'm not sure I've ever seen a Orion/Saturn Silver in the flesh so can't really comment.

I looked at DSB first, but the chipped bonnet showed the grey under coat so went off it.
Saw Orion silver, dealer price same as back street DSB but with idrive, so i bought.
I like the colour, it changes in different light. Bright sunshine it's silver, goes gold in the evening. Shows the lines of the car.
Had nothing but compliments over colour.
In particular it doesn't show the dirt around these parts.
My alternate colour would be red, but the shades offered i don't like much.

Mine is a not on the list - Mineral Grey
I bought my car at the end of the production run in 2016 (July) so colour choice was very limited - I only had two choices, take it or leave it!

I voted VO but Estoril Blue is a very close second.

IMO some colour combos can make the difference, DSB wouldn’t be one of my first choices but would jump up the order if it had Ivory interior.

As mentioned by Pond, most owners will pick their own colour in the poll but only you know what you like/want. Personally I’m not that keen on Orion but like Havana, just as well we’re all different and like different things
