Correct me if I am wrong but the car in the OP’s photos is Orion Silver, as far as I know BMW never did a Saturn Silver at least not on the E89. I am not a young man but even I would say Orion Silver / Saturn Silver is definitely an old man’s colour! I voted sapphire black, because well I’ve got one but more important I think it looks great specially when clean and polished up. Makes the car look aggressive but classy at the same time. Can understand why some might not choose it especially if you are in the UK where the bad weather makes it difficult to keep clean. If I bought an E89 again and had to choose another colour it would be VO or mineral grey.

Firs t time i saw VO was in Skegness.
It just looked a dirty colour, i was a bit disappointed, as it looked good in promo videos.
Or perhaps it was the Skeggy effect.

I’ve owned one in DSB and one in VO, but voted for Mineral White.

VO looks brilliant when the suns out, but I wasn’t so keen when it was overcast. Mine had a contrasting black roof from the factory and I wonder if I’d have felt differently if the entire car was VO.

I really liked DSB, and mine had the contrasting Cream leather - classic BMW combo.

I like the look of Alpine white, but it seems like 50% of E89’s are in this colour (no idea what the actual numbers are) so it would have to be an absolute Minter to tempt me.

Mrs Pond’s new Estoril Blue looks lovely from the photos, but not seen one in the metal. Same with Mineral Grey, looks fab in photo’s, but not seen one in the metal.

Melbourne red is the metallic one yes? If so, I have seen one in the metal in bright sunshine and I was taken with it.. although I’m not normally a fan of red cars unless it’s a Porsche or Ferrari.

Voted Mineral white as it really suits the lines, but is a bit more special, and rarer, than Alpine.

Now you have plenty of choice, but not much if you want different interior.
3 years after launch still not many colours in 2nd hand market..
Back then when i bought it was black, white, dsb, os, grey or red.
BMW's policy of making all gadgets extra also knocks the ability to resell.

Next will be monthly subscription to turn the engine on.

Polls on colour choice is a bit silly really on a forum where nearly everyone owns one of the cars....

"let me think about colour choice.......errrr.....MINE"
And where I haven't seen cars in most of the colours, so I can't tell.

And it ignores the interior colours and textures. Melbourne Red with grey Dakota is very good. With white Nappa it's excellent.

Yes Melbourne Red is a metallic. It’s a bit like VO looks a bit dull in the shade but really comes alive in the sunshine. I had MR on my F20 and it looked really good especially in the Costa Del Sol sunshine but I am not sure red is a colour that suits the E89 that well. Saw a MR E89 some time ago here but it didn’t make me think wow that looks amazing:

Just looked Autotrader, first 6 23i for sale are black.

There certainly were a lot of black E89s on the market when I was looking. Obviously a very popular colour when new together with white (alpine and mineral).

I have voted DSB but Estoril is a very close second for me. I have had E89's in DSB, Mineral Grey and Mineral White. Colour of course is a very personal thing but I would have one eye on resaleability. Good luck with your choice.

I do like MR, would be my choice if i bought again.
But not if it looks like post office van in the flesh. Much like a deeper cherry red.

Not keen on white, especially later, looks like part of bumper missing.

I bought them from another Forum member. I’ll look back through my posts to see if I can find the make . I loved the look but they were beggars to clean.
What alloys are those on your old red one?

Beyern Aviatics, if I remember correctly. They were on Bobs car before we bought it.

Absolutely correct. Just found the info in my old PMs. They are Bayern Aviatics Front 19 x 8.5 ET 30
Rear 19 x 9.5 ET 35

Nice wheels suits the car and looks a little like Alpinas but true must be a pain to clean!

The colour you’re talking about can take a long time to shift if you choose to sell in future… so that might tell you what you want to know about the colour’s popularity

Certainly don’t pay a premium for that colour.

I’ve seen a couple in the metal and they didn’t do it for me, but we’re all different.

This, but it’s obvs your money and choice so if it floats your boat all’s good. :driving:

VO for me, just a gorgeous colour for me with DSB second, one thing I find frustrating as new models are released by BMW the colour choice gets less adventurous, think Sapang Bronze and Phoenix Yellow for e85/86, then Havana Brown and Atacama Yellow for E89 and then frozen grey for the g29.

think how good the e89 would look in Sepang Bronze or Phoenix Yellow
