Collected my new sDrive 3.5i today!

Traded in my 2007 ///MC for this and collected it today. First impressions are good, although total mileage is only 35 miles including my 13 mile test drive last week and the 12 mile journey home.

The Sales Manager happens to be a fellow former submariner and has offered me something called "BMW shortfall" for 4 years at a cost of £43.00 per month paid over 12 months. Anyone got views on this, which would guarantee that I was refunded the full purchase price in the event of a write-off during the next 4 years (ie whatever the insurance Comapny paid 'topped up' to the purchase price)? I have a week or so to decide.

Very nice  love estoril blue seen one in the dealer last week. Regarding Gap insurance I toke it when I bought my car about the same if I remember. Gives you peace of mind if anything goes wrong. :D

We've launched a GAP product through our partners considerably cheaper than this. Some dealerships are being hammered by the FCA for 'forceful tactics' and pushing people into thinking they need this insurance, but sell you at a huge premium without explaining that it is a standalone product anyone can sell... Ironically enough my BMW dealership did the same thing to me. If you've already purchased you have 14 days cooling off period in any event, perhaps do a search online. Or, if you're interested, PM me and I can send you an unofficial quote estimate and a broker to call.

Great car by the way ! Hope it provides many years trouble free motoring, and I just adore the colour. One of my favourites.

Gap insurance - for comparison on our £11500 3.0si we bought 4 years worth - cost about £300.
So, what's the cost for my 35i @ £49950?

If my maths is right, £516 - considering the difference in value that seems comparable.

Some interesting comments about alternatives above though.

Nice motor.

Gap insurance - no ta. Sales guys get a massive amount of commission for it so no wonder they push it. Never had it and never needed it.

@49.9k, assuming 10k coverage gap

£210 estimated, 4 years cover

20k coverage ~ £240
30k coverage ~£310

I wouldn't expect you to need more than 20k even after 4 years...

its "return to invoice" gap insurance. You will be able to buy it online cheaper usually. Although most dealers can usually price match a genuine quote if you prefer to keep it with BMW.

Yes, as others have said, it's GAP cover and for a car of that value it's worth having for peace of mind. But you can save some cash here without compromise.

BMW offered it to me at £800 for 3 years "discounted" to £660 as a favour. Got 3 years from Chris Knott for £160 - same cover, just a 'phone call to arrange.

You don't have to have your main policy with them, this is independent. Did my wife's focus for about £120 too IIRC.

(Nice looking car you have BTW................)

Lovely looking car you must be delighted.

As others have said it's just gap insurance so you can sort it out yourself. Just do a quick Google search to get an idea of prices to compare against the BMW offer.

More importantly enjoy the new car !!

I've never been a fan of Estoril, but i have to say that looks really nice, about time they had some different colours in the range.

Wont your insurance company offer a new for old type arrangement for the first 12 months on a new car? If so then you are paying for GAP insurance for the first 12 months when its not needed!!

As others have said shop around on the internet as its just a stand alone product most companies offer and you can select the amount of cover needed

loving that colour :D

as others plenty of GAP insurers out there for a fraction of the cost of the dealer policies, I've used Click4Gap.co.uk before, never had to claim though...

Yes when I bought the Merc a benefit of it being new meant gap insurance was covered by the insurance company for 12 months foc.

I won't be taking more now it's a year old, it's worth what it's owed presently. Got ripped off on the e89 with this when I bought it six years ago, not doing that again.
