Hi I have code 2A98 causing a misfire on a 07 2.5litre Z4, it is vanos related where do I start trouble shooting this fault

See enuff_zed's post regarding the exhaust side solonoid not shown in the diagram, missed that point when I originally posted this reply.

Just to confirm, the link shows a solenoid and the parts list says Qty 2.
The one shown is the inlet solenoid.
The exhaust one is on the bottom of the other side of the unit. It fits in horizontally to the cylindrical part sticking out the bottom in the image.

As always with fault finding I would advocate changing one thing at a time, or else you'll get lost and not know what has made the changes.
 
Removed and cleaned both solenoids this morning, fiddly but straightforward, did a 30 min road test and all OK,
