Closing the roof using key fob

I keep wanting to get out there and try it but it won't stop raining/drizzling! All very frustrating. Off on a jaunt to London for a couple of days so I should find out on Sunday - if the rain doesn't come back! :P

Well mines back from the dealer to be told they have disabled this function on newer cars.

It will only close the roof with the key blade in the door lock for a period of time after switching off the car.

You will have to put the key in the ignition and wake the car up to perform the key close in the door lock.

I reckon i will just buy a dumb key (no electronics) if possible and hang it up in the garage.I used the key in my E85 and it worked ok for me.

I really do need the roof down to get out easily. (narrow ish garage and a dodgy leg)

Sorry to leave you hanging on tenterhooks....

...and I'm afraid it wasn't worth the wait. It seems that for UK cars BMW must have gone deeper into the system to disable keyfob closure. The guy who did mine showed me the screen that had two flags (on/off) for both fob opening and fob closure and I watched him change the relevant flag. He said he'd done it plenty of times on the previous model Z4 but it seems that the sDrive is a different beast. Oh well... :|

My 2012 car doesn;t have comfort access.

I've tried closing the roof with the metal key in the door lock...but nothing happens.

Are you guys saying this should work?

Yes, this should work as standard, even if you don't have the Comfort option. It should be a matter of turning the key in the driver's door lock (I haven't tried the passenger side) and holding it. The roof should then close as normal as well as the windows.

If it's not working then perhaps a call to the dealer is required... :?

It would have been a great help for me to close the lid from the fob ( combination of a garage with a block pillar at the wrong position and a dodgy leg) but as it seems this is not going to be possible, I have ordered a replacement blade key. (the one that pulls out of the electronic fob) I will leave that hidden away in a convenient place, get out of the car and close the roof with that key! A comprimise but at least it's a workaround!

£28 inc the vat !

I find it quite ironical that the villains can crack the security system and drive a car away yet the software cannot be hacked to close the roof :(

I'm in the same boat with parking the Zed in a 1970s garage, with a bad lower back it aint easy,

I never have the roof down in the garage, terrified it might for what ever reason raise itself with subsequent consequences, with a suspended set of ladders hanging from the garage roof. I tend to enter and exit with the window down, makes it alot easier then put the window back up when out of the car.

Tim.

I used the key method on my E85 ragtop - and like you I didnt leave the top folded as I didnt want the car filled with dust.

It seems like the key is the best workaround in the circumstances - until somebody cracks the software!

I have looked at ways of taking the pillar out of my garage but its a structural support and would require a lot of steel work (it supports the corner of the gable end above! The costs will be a bit more that a £28 key.
