Clear Third Brake Light

Has anyone ever seen, or attempted to do a clear third brake light for the e89?

There is one for the e85, but I think a clear one would look good on our cars.

I am pondering how hard it would be to make.

Never seen one. If you dig into Thai E89 tags on Instagram you might find something. There are tons of mods on the market over that way that you don’t find over here.

Here is a quick with / without example made on pixelmator…
Not a good edit by any stretch, but the colour removal of the third brake light seems to make the car look wider.

Yeah, I was hoping I would find one from there, they are really into e89 mods.

So you brake and what looks like a reversing light comes on?

No, the e85 z4 can have a clear third brake light, I believe it’s an OEM upgrade. The light element and plastic cover are clear, but it emits red light.

Porsche / Aston Martin also do clear light upgrades for some of their cars.

The challenge of making one for the e89 is the shape of the brake light lens.

Looks good in principle to my eyes particularly given the white paint - kind of hides it. I wonder if I’d need a smoked version to achieve a similar effect on a black car?

I think it looks pretty good on the white car example.

Yeah, if a clear lens was made, it could have a tint applied.
Perhaps brighter LEDs to compensate.

It was an option on the Z3 too, looked OK in my opinion

Interesting, looks very similar to the e89, mounted on top of the boot panel.

It is strange that not only are there no OEM upgrades, but no aftermarket ones either!

No, it's fitted IN the boot panel, like all the Zeds, just replaced the original red light set up.

I don't care much for stick-on cosmetic tat normally but the clear brake light is actually an improvement. If one was made i'd buy it.
