eBay clear third brake light - seal?

I've checked with an eBay seller for these which are available super cheap for around the £30 mark. They don't come with a seal though which I would assume they would need to stop water running into your boot? Or, does the design not require a seal at all?

I don't want to risk taking my cracking old one out to check in case it snaps completely!

Many thanks

mine came with just a quite thin foam type seal rather than the rubber type on oe..there was no issues with water ingress

You need some kind of barrier to prevent moisture ingress. If it isn't watertight then you'll end up with condensation in the boot.

Okay great. So the OE has a rubber seal, it might well be okay to accommodate the new lamp with doesn't have a seal. At a push, I could always make one.

Thanks

You'll have to make something up, I'd be tempted to try some clear silicone sealant, but something removable. I'm sure the light will be fine but you do need that vapour barrier.

Bought replacement hi-tail brake light off ebay and fitted it in April 2019. It was a Chinese knock off job but it fitted perfectly and it still works great. My old one had cracked down the middle, so following Forum advice I didn't overtighten the bolts, so on close inspection it might look as if the unit is not flush with the boot profile at the edges, but as I say, so far so good.
Cost £23.87 all in from Auto-Fashion (China).
