Clear light and Angel Eye Conversion - The Project and Story

So I've seen a couple of pictures (I think from Ranski) showing with his finger where the cut line is. I took a look today to get a feel for where its got to be... Questions...
Its not the actual lense that is cut? I mean before the black trim?
It's the actual middle if the black trip 'step'?
Isn't that 3 layers thick? It looks like that's the slot where the lense was originally bonded? So going through black, then clear lense, then black again? Does the top bit of black trim get replaced or does that come off after re installation?

Any if that make sence!?

Or is it just behind the black step?

Enlightenment would be great! Exact cut line picture would be fab. Just so I have an image in my head. Would help me sleep at nights!

How much do you want for them?
I've been following this thread for many months now, and know I've not got the space/ time/ knowledge/ equipment or tools to try this.

Would anyone be interested on doing this on a headlamp exchange + cash bases.

Will these do the job for cutting?...

Or would they have to be specifically plastic ones used?

They do a set of these too...
Would 5 be enough do you think!? Did folks use the ones that come with it or a specific plastic/metal disk?

Looks great mate! Too job.
Did you do anything else to the diffusers (apart from the initial sand down)? Polish down sides etc?

Markeg was right - just a wedge from the top and bottom to make the LED diffusers fit

Looking good there, Ranski

Btw - think I have a solution for bypassing the sidelights, plan on testing in soon and will let you know :)

Tapatalking...

So I'm ready to take the plunge on this one, already removed the back of my diner halogens, so I can put the lens into my xenons. But I have a few questions...

First: which type of AE should I buy? It seems on recent pages people are going for LED with diffusers, is there a reason? Where would you recommend buying from, and I've also read about some of the LEDs going out?

Whilst on that, I want to have a slight blue tinge to them like in the picture below (I believe this is Marius' car?)

Second: do I mount the AE to the front of the lights, or recess them?

Third: which glue do I use for the AE and also for reselling the light itself?

4th and final: I want to have the AE as DRL, will any switched live do? I saw someone take a feed from the box in the engine bay, but I'm thinking of taking it from the cabin so I can have a internal switch.

Any help greatly appreciated!

1: After looking at the difference that Ranski had between CCFL and LED lights I'd go for LED (and did!) The light is very white so if you wanted a blue tinge (like Marius's car) I guess you'd have to use CCFL or see if you can find some LEDs at that colour temp.

2: Recently its been done both ways! I prefer the look of them being mounted in front as you see the whole ring.

3: For the AEs you will need a high temp adhesive and just a silicone adhesive to reseal the lights up again.

4: Do you have an Intravee installed? I so you can turn on the setting for sidelights as DRLs and simply wire in the AEs to the side lights. Failing that, as you said you'd have to take a loop from the cabin for a switch (if you wanted that, or loop from the fuse box in the engine bay for DRLs)

Hope that helps a little! :)

Luke, great help.

Is it just the brightness where the LED has the upper hand? If so I think that's a good choice for DRL. Where's best to buy them?

I don't have an intravee and ideally don't want them with the sidelight as I think it will spoil the perfect circle. I know the live will need to come from the cabin (ill probably use the cigar lighter) could I use a ground in the unit instead of looping back?

How do people route wires into the unit without breaking the seal?

We have acquired them from

http://www.superbrightleds.com/

Most if not all? Have just wired them up the the sidelight.

I think I have seen one member who drilled a hole in the backplate so he could hook up a relay to the fusebox, but the lights suffered from moisture buildup
