Clear light and Angel Eye Conversion - The Project and Story

I tried just the top and bottom, but the left side also needed to be sanded down - I'm think im going to paint the sides chrome to match the rest
ah, ok. My left didn't need sanding ( or at least didn't appear to need sanding). I like the idea of painting the sides, though.... Feel another opening coming along :D

The middle shot shows where the ring was slightly too tight and removed some of the black paint from the housing - had to repair that before shutting the headlight

Sorry, no close up of the sanding though...

Have you left your led sidelight bulb in place Markeg?
yep - its a change I want to make (replace it for a resistor to stop the canbus error) but just not got around to it yet. I'm not keen on the blank look it leaves when removed, so thinking of options.... I tried some of the LED sidelghts (as in the pic and teh other open LED option), but still got canbus errors after a week or so even though the LEDs worked. Now have a standard "xenon" blue one in there for the moment.

Any idea what size resistor you need? Do you just add it to the sidelight circuit and take the bulb out. Ranski left his sidelights inside the housing out of sight but a resistor if easy to do might be ideal

I believe its a 100 ohm resistor, need to get one from Maplins and try it out. But as I'm in Rome for a while, and don't know the Italian for "where's the local Maplins" I'll leave it until I get home :)

Let me know how you get on with the resistor. But be careful where you house it as they get red hot

 Think that's why the open LED's on the sidelights keep failing

:P Might just try that

Just got a letter through from post office... customs charge on an item so needs collecting... Hope its the AE's!! :trampoline:

Also from just installing the Intravee i have now set the AE as DRL option so wiring to the side lights will work lovely as Ranski has done  happy bunny!

monkey, the hardest part is actually sourcing all the bits required.

the whole 'cutting open expensive lights' seems daunting at first, but as long as you put the dremel on a low speed and follow the line between black and clear plastic, theres no way you can mess it up.

the annoying part is when you seal them back up, re-fit everything and then the lights mist up :headbang: i had to re-do them 3 times!

johnny did mention something about getting together and doing a group diy job. i'd be happy to pop along to show you mine and offer some advice (not that you probably need any, you're a man of many talents), depending on time/date of course.

What did you discover was the cause of the condensation Ben?

+1 ..... I'm fine with swapping motors but this kind of stuff always seems to turn into a disaster for me :headbang:

more than likely a dodgy cut with the dremel. i ended up using another front and it seemed to fix the issue.
