Clear light and Angel Eye Conversion - The Project and Story

I am, I am! But as I understood it, there was different sizes required for xenon and non xenon headlights? Also, I thought I read in this long old thread somewhere before, getting two different sized halo's would be preferable?

Cree LED!? Never heard if it!
What would that do?
They are those extremely bright LEDs you see on some expensive bike lights. On eBay if you search 'z4 headlights' you'll see the 'Cree' bulbs. It might not work but if you could mount a very bright Cree bulb into the diffuser it might produce a ring of light as it diffuses around the ring. I just really like the mega bright effect you get with some bmw's

For me, after seeing the above, I 100% need both rings to sit on the outer face. With that in mind, anyone care to offer some advice on what size rings I need for non xenon units?
Mine are non-xenon and I used 80mm rings. Trouble is the diffuser bulks them up. Would need to tinker with the inners a bit if you want them to both sit on the face. The natural shape of the inner causes a few problems. Anything is possible though. Trouble is every time I see something I prefer I have the urge to open up the lights again and change it. That's why it's taken me so long to finish mine

You and me both......

In have the same set of LED rings in my current headlights as you guys have (80mm) but without the diffuser fitted. Saying that they are already incased in plastic so away from any moisture buildup.

The outer LED ring is attached to the silver front, while the inner ring is glued into the high beam cove

For my new set of lights I want both Angels attached to the front so I will have to sand down the top of the LED diffuser as its around 84mm which is about 2mm too big for the inner and about 4mm too big for the outer

Cheers for that Ranski, are yours xenon or halogen units? So if I got 4x 80mm rings with diffusers, then the diffuser rings just need a bit sanding off before they can be fitted and that'd be that?

Yes I have halogens

I'm going to start sanding the diffusers down later today, so I'll feedback on whether its a clean fit or not

Excellent mate, thanks a lot. I'll be try this later in the month by the sounds of things, so I'd like to get your verdict, then buy some before then.

Will be good to see how this works out for you Ranski.
Thats how i want mine to sit too, in front. I take it your planning to square off the top and bottom to make it work? By the looks of it, it may need some taking out of the top of the liner to get the diffuser in keeping its shape?

The glueing will be key as there isn't much of a surface to bond the back of the LED to the housing, but if you apply plenty of adhesive at the rear it will hold fast and not be seen

For the 'frozen edges' that have been filed down I will neaten up and spray silver

PS this is what I used

All those who want some should do a group buy as the postage is quite dear from the states and the diffusers are only $1.95 each.
Looking good Rich!

So Ranski, when are you going into business offering this as a service to forum members for cash cash cash?

To be honest Jembo its a shiter of a job and once you factor in the cost of the LED's, Defussers and the all important clear indicators you would be looking at £400 in parts alone. Added to Labour costs £200 - £300 its probably better to have a crack yourself?

That looks great Rich  definitely the way I'll go I think. Will be a lot quicker too with a linnisher!

Love it!

I only lightly sanded the top and bottom to fit them rather than all the way round, maybe xenons have a larger gap, as only needed a small amount removing, hardly noticeable?

Tapatalking...

I tried just the top and bottom, but the left side also needed to be sanded down - I'm think im going to paint the sides chrome to match the rest
