Clear light and Angel Eye Conversion - The Project and Story

No, all the LED's are working fine

Have you had any moisture buildup in the headlight? As this could have caused the issue?

+1 That's what I had, so replaced all round and added diffusers. And replaced the rear hatches and seals, and added a silica gel bag to stop moisture getting in again. No problems with moisture or LED failure since.

The last person who put silica gel crystals in discovered they were really salt. Short story is 2 new headlights required.
I'd remove any such stuff.

The silica is fine, just make sure it is silica. I used them for a while until I redid my seals.

Of course - problem is not all these sachets are the real deal...

Anyone got a silica test? :D apart from "eat a bit and see what happens"

Open one of the bags. If it doesn't look like gel balls its prob not silica.

Option b. Buy from a reputable source.

My gut feeling is most people just grab sachets used in some sort of packing of goods and assume they are silica, when they could be anything.

Personally I find and treat the issue and not the effect as in any event Zed headlights are open with breathers and draw moisure in an out.

Mine have small balls, and a big sign on them saying "Silica Gel Dessicant Do Not Eat". They're bought from a reputable source that I've used for years (although they now trade on eBay) and have always served me well in keeping my tools rust free (although that's also to do with the light oiling they get on a regular basis)

Think I'm safe then :)

Sorry Luke I missed this post. I'm going to finish the lights this weekend so will post some pics. Those were the same company I bought my AE's and diffusers from. Took about 2-3 weeks to arrive then I had to pay vat and post office charges :headbang: my only worry is that they won't be bright enough :(

Leesfarm07, they are the same as mine - they are plenty bright enough!
This is on a 9v source only, as a test before I replaced the front lens

A few questions...!
How was it fitting the diffusers too?
Did they make up the needed 5mm on the larger side?
Are they a tight fit round the LED ring and did you have to secure them together somehow?
What was the best way of securing these inside the lights with the diffuser on?

Ta!

Looks good to me! Do you have diffusers on too markeg?
Yep, LED and diffusers. Previously had just LEDs but they look so much better (IMHO) with diffusers. There is no reduction in brightness, just a better appearance of a single ring.

Diffusers effectively clip on and seems a pretty strong hold. I added a dab of strong glue gun glue to 4 points just to make sure. Also glued from the back to hold them in. I have a few photos I'll post shortly - just having a beer on the sunshine at the moment!

That's good to know. I've been trying with the 9v battery as well. I got the supply of these from your previous post Markeg so thanks for that  I opened out the main beam (inner) hole in the black inner to allow the ring and diffuser to pass through. The outer ring (dipped) I have sitting behind the black inner if that makes sense. I do like them with the diffusers on definately more Oem looking. Good find Markeg!

Here's mine from the back. I didn't use any glue on the front (apart from the 4 small dabs on the diffuser to fix it to the grey backing ring)

I used a glue gun with the strongest glue sticks I could find. If you look closely you can see I also used some glue around the wiring to keep it fixed - I'm always wary of wiring coming loose on a small solder point, like they have on these LEDs

The xenon light was the most difficult to fit with the diffusers on, it's very tight. On the first fitting it scraped some of the black paint off - I had to lightly sand, removing a couple of mm off each side to get a good fit. Here's a pic of the first fitting, you can see the scrape at the top of the leftmost diffuser

They look fantastic!!
It was your links too that pointed me in the direction of these! Appreciated! :) (although my wallet doesn't appreciate you posting them!!)

So the glue gun glue has held up fine with these in. No melting etc... what sticks did you use? That's what you used round the whole assembly of these then?

Like these a lot!
Markeg's LEDs and Diffusers
BenG's same colour inners
Ideas from Marius's lights

Little bits from most that have contributed on this thread! THANKS!

The glue gun was a Stanley one, came with some standard and strong glue sticks. Spent ages trying to find some, ended up buying it at B&Q

No movement or melting of the glue after 3 months of usage, so all looks good
