Clear light and Angel Eye Conversion - The Project and Story

Jeeper,
Do you have your halos as DLRs? If so, where do you pick up permenant "ignition on" power supply in the headlamp enclosure?

At present they are acting as substitute sidelights, but I drive with them on a lot these days for visibility

As DRL's become more popular I may flick them over to that.

My guess is that there is a programmable circuit to set DRL's to 'on' so you'd need to put a few in or have it coded.

Cj,

Just curious, once the light is open is it pretty apparent how the inner parts come apart? I would like to do the amber delete and add a set of Lumenux angel eyes. I know others have done this now, just looking for a little more guidance. Thanks.

Yes - once you have cut the front off it's easy enough to work out.

Not sure what you mean about the lens in the second post? You can replace any part like for like with a donor light of the same type

This piece is actually scratched badly and I don't think I would be able to buff the scratches out of it. I was wondering if I could transfer the donor one to my light?

Then the answer is 'yes' you can use the lens of one light and the black body of the other. Picking the best of both. Rebuild with your clear indicator lenses.

Take great care of the silver backing as it marks easily and is very obvious from outside the light.

Ok, I actually have black backings but was curious if they could also be switched to a chrome or silver backing. I have a black car and couldn't decide on this yet???

Yes - they are interchangeable. Just keep to prefacelift else they differ in internal shape on some of them

Peddy - that's exactly what I said??

Your picture helps clarify it
I know, I was just specifying the specifc type that differ as facelift halogen are the same. :)

Well,

I had no intentions of this happening today, but I actually found a set of halogen lights that are NOS. They have never been installed, one is a black backing and the other a chrome. So, I will stick with the black backing for the price I found them for = $200 for the set. Now I just need some guidance as far as the cutting procedure goes  Here is some pics of the lights I found.

Cj,

As i am sure you and others will notice these are the European style lights, where the parking lights are located under the high beam rather than in the indicator as on US cars. My plan is to take my black backing out of my left side headlight and transfer it over to the new headlight, This would call for the least amount of cutting and I like this style better anyway.

My question is will these parking lights work in the new location: while still using my car's harness with out modification? I hope so....

Assuming you just undo a connector off one bulb and fasten it to the rear of one in the new location I see no reason why not.

CJ,

as far as opening them, what track do I need to follow when cutting them open with my dremel?

Also, found a solution that seems easy for totally deleting the amber in the turn signal:

What do you think?
