Clear light and Angel Eye Conversion - The Project and Story

The guy hasn't put the size of the AE's, so can't really tell if they'd fit or not. He states it's an "easy job", so can't be for the zed...

I was scared of doing this mod, but it's actually quite easy TBH. You just need a lot of patience.

i only stumbled on this post tonight and yep, the conversion looks great

Is it the same process on the 2003 model?

yep same process... CJ has an 03 IIRC.

Do you have xenons or halogens? halogens are a straight swap. I still cut open mine because I wanted silver inners and the facelift headlights I had were black... plus i got rid of the orange spots.

As long as you can find a clear set you can transfer the inner parts like i did, albeit with difficulty

Go on have a go, but whatever don't buy cr*p off ebay assuming it will fit. Takes a fair bit of research (whic I had to do) to get the right sizes.

Opening lights is not difficult as peddy says, just patience, cleanliness and a few basic tools

Hi all,
Just signed up after getting my 2.0 '06 sport at the weekend. I'd already been looking at this post though...

Mine has clear lenses, and is free from amberification (?) so I've no issue with that, would just love to have the AEs. Is it possible to remove the bulb housing compartment from the back of the lens module, and feed the rings in that way?

Yours in hope..

Welcome Roz...... I'm sure you get an appropriate response in due course. Perhaps a post in the Newbies section with a few pics?

maybe (more in favour of yes then no). Best bet is to speak to CJ10Jeeper (the founder) and Dreamer (he removed the internals of halogen headlights to then replace them with his xenon ones)

Welcome.

The answer to your question is I don't know as all my work has been on prefacelift lights.
For sure you can remove the lights and of course dismantle the projector assmbly from the inside but it will take time and dexterity and then need setting up again. You can't remove the black or silver backing or the indicator moulding. The thing you have to ask yourself will be what size AE rings and how will I get them through the backing and mount them in a suitable place? If you can figure that out then it's doable.

TBH I think it's easier to cut it open. plus you can get rid of the amber spots and have a flush look.

Thanks guys. One supplier I've found is sending my instructions on how to retrofit. Chances are it'll just be wiring instructions, but we'll see...

ps. don;t need to remove amber spots - I ain't got none.

All stock facelift light have amber spots.. A pic of mine:

i can see mine head on, and as subtle as it may be they really irritate me... to the point that if i find a cheap set on ebay i will buy them just to open up and remove the orange internal lens.

A small kid with artistic/perfectionist tendencies?

Got the installation instruction as mentioned above. As per a previous post it involves ovens at 80 degC for 15 mins to soften the bond - hmmm......
:fuelfire:

risk vs return???

Instructions are incorrect. you can't open our headlights with an oven job. can only cut them open.

I can tell you for certain any instructions that suggest ovens and melting adhesive don't work. I've opened 2001 X5 headlights in minutes with heat but Zeds use more of a silicone type seal and it will not melt. Even had strips on the bench under heat guns to test.
