Clear light and Angel Eye Conversion - The Project and Story

I'm not listening. I'm on holiday for Christmas...

I could sell anyone a brand new (still in BMW box) clear OS Xenon, silver inners and you'd be halfway to a set of clears...

Hi Street, Shame you didn't go the full hog. But I understand. Did you get an Audi Lamp to take apart and look at? How are the Audi one's done???

They really freshen the car up. Great mod.

MDV, I am absolutely amazed that you managed to park the car in the exact same/precise spot in these pics! Must be mm perfect!

He didn't move the car :poke: The second pic simply has the indicator turned on

Great job street. They look good.

Interested to see you abandoned the LED concept. Having now converted 3 sets I was intrigued where you would end up with them given the constraints of the different internal parts

 Quite convincing tho!

To the last poster, yes you can buy them from the friendly neighbourhood BMW dealer who will be pleased to relieve you of over £1000 for a pair. :driving:

can't you just buy these from somewhere and put em on the car?

My conversion cost me £180 (no AE). Having xenons, I don't think you'll get much change from £1500 direct from BMW.

I've got xenons on mine, any sensible solution for this? I dont even wanna ask BMW how much that would be! :?

So there is no way to do it without having a pair of clear indicator lenses, I thought that the indicator lens was clear and looks orange from something that reflects from behind

well never say 'no way', but the Z4 headlight uses either an internal amber lens or in the case of a clear lens amber glass capsules around the bulbs which then shine amber. To convert you need donor lights or a straight swap to clear units. There have been some workarounds with people applying film to tone down the amber.

So it can be done,

I'm so glad I found this thread... Nows... how about the back lights?... Can they be done too? - That is to upgrade them to the later versions?

Cheers
Joe

Mike has shown variations to the original lights. I think you meant changing to the facelift?
If so - Yes it can be done. You need to have the LCM programmed or changed. Femme T did it.

You'd also need to sort out the different light profile by either modding yuor bumper cover or fitting a later facelift one too.

Aye...

Thanks Mike for that.. Sorry CJ, yes... I did mean the 2006 updated rear lights.

Ok, so the bumper is different too on the 06 lift, that will have to be a future project me thinks... What is the LCM? Somekind of on-board Eprom?

Yes - they changed the profile of the lower edge of the light and so although the new bumper is pretty much a direct swap it will not fit the old lights. I have this issue right now as I grapple with the requirements of a quad exhaust conversion.

Gannet has answered the acronym. It's actually the electronic unit built onto the back of the light switch on the dash and there are many versions, but some have reported success in having it coded to accept the new design lights bu tI have no experience or expertise on this.
