Clear light and Angel Eye Conversion - The Project and Story

Yes. You should go for the hazzle of putting in the Ae's or you will regret it. I would have to say the effect is definitely worth it. I sourced mine off of ebay, I think they were around 75USD shipped.

You will need selant all the way around the back housing and the lens, if not water can penetrate the there and your headlight will fog up and have condensation in it (dont want that).

When doing this I would suggest using painters tape to hold the light in place as it will tend to slide during drying time. Make sure you get a good amount of silicone between the lens and housing to ensure it is properly sealed.

As far as mounting the Ae's you can gather on my post on page 13 how I did it or Cj did it differently. It all depends on how you prefer it to look. Good luck and ask quetions along the way....and take your time. :thumbsup:

Thanks mate, appreciated. Good tip to use tape while the silicone is setting. I've already separated one of the donor lights which was easy but cleaning up the glue from the lense took nearly 3 hours! :| Hopefully I'll get quicker on the next one.
 
Not really finished as such, as I want to polish the headlight lens to get a clean crisp finish, but here's my attempt:

Looks good - I think the orange indicator light will shine through just fine

T2FFN - Looking good. work is of a standard to be posted in this thread :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

Obvious but watch for finger prints on the insie of the lens before you assemble it...

BTW - I see the comment by bettybmw03 about ising tape to hold the lens on while it dries - great suggestion.
An alternative is to wind a couple of wraps of string around and use a screwdiriver at the back to twist it. You can increase tension until you get just the loading you need.
 
Looks good. Shame it would look pants on a black car with silver headlight inners :headbang:

My car is black, and the inners started off silver :thumbsup:

I honestly would have preferred to keep the inners silver with clear indicators as I like the contrast, but circumstances and lack of clear indicators forced my hand.

Not fitted yet, so not sure how it will look on the car :?

Yeah, I did give them a good rub and hit from the hair drier to make sure as best I could to get the dust and bits out. I also wore nitrite gloves so no prints :evil:

Depending on the adhesive used, they shouldn't slip much, but I also used masking tape to hold them in place.

Too late :cry:

I didn't want to wait 2 weeks for them to arrive, but I should be able to slice into these with a sharp knife...? Only held with adhesive sealant.

Looking forward to seeing them on the car. As you say, this sounds like it could be a good solution for black/dark colours but unfortunately no good for lighter/silver Z4s. Dammit.

Nice one, thanks. Out of interest, have you a separate power feed to the AEs or did you just replace the sidelights with them?
 
T2FFN - VERY well done. Great end result and i think the best colour inner you could have gone for.
