Clear indicators group buy interest

Andrew is referring to the actual bulbs. There are no 'domes' on pre- facelift lights with orange hockey sticks, so people need to be aware. I wrapped the actual clear bulbs in ultra high temperature Kapton tape so they flash orange.

Just to correct this point. The prefacelift DO indeed have the glass domes over the bulbs on UK cars. They are amber in colour and go over standard white bulbs.

Just to correct your correction, they DON'T all have domes. I was present when mine were opened!

EDIT - just seen others have supported me on this. My phone doesn't always display updates first time.

Still watching & looking forward to reaching the magic 10... then I'll be worrying more about opening the headlamps rather than whether mine do or don't have domes...

Roll on for a 'Bo Derek'...

sorry for a daft questionon on this, cant you just get orange bulbs? in the cars ive had with clear indicators im sure they were just a normal bulb that was orange?

nice post on the Angel eyes

No, no one on here has ever found anyone who sells them.
Agreed - that's why I ended up painting the bulbs to get adequate amber effect under covered amber domes and avoid the fried egg look

Out of interest, would any of these be the ones we could use?

if they are canbus error free then maybe yes, although as mentioned above the two pins are not the normal layout - but worth a punt

The first ones in the advert supply a free CAMBUS resistor if required... so looking goodish. Can anyone post a pic of the pin layout of the bulb i should be looking for, just in case, thanks

I tried supposed 'canbus error free' LEDs but they still threw an error. I thought about large load resistors but decided it was too much hassle so stuck with bulbs in the end.

Doesn't a BA15S bulb have a 15mm diameter base? If so, I don't think either will fit as the Z4 uses a BAY9S which is 9mm.

I looked long and hard when I did mine and there were no realistic alternatives.
Neither of those linked are appropriate. Remember the bulb fits in a holder and has to poke through a narrow opening so it has to be slim. You also want 360 degree light to illuminate all the hockey stick or will have 2 spots of light.

I can find a bulb tonight to photo the bayonet if needed.

what about these... i dont really understand the canbus issue but im guessing the fried egg thing is just having a yellow spot in the middle of the white reflector. ideally i guess you need a light pipe to spreat the light out.

im quite interested in all this but 160 quid for a couple of chunks of plastic is bonkers. ive seen cheaper carbonfibre bits than that.

just seen this... holy moly bataman

Yeah, but carbon fibre indicators would be crap for light dissipation. :poke:

The BAY9S bulbs appear to be quite popular for motorbikes. They will be used somewhere, whether anyone ever manages to find them is another matter. Either way there are other solutions.

As requested here's a couple of shots of the bulb.
Ignore the colour as this was an early test one where I tried to bake the glass paint to death with continuous heat :)

Note the offset bayonet which I now remember is what stopped me ever finding anything to fit (21w, bayonet fitting, amber and offset pin  ).
Of course you could cut one pin off, but my glass paint on standard bulbs worked just fine.
