Cleaning 108s

What if any are the best products you have found for cleaning up 108s or is there no substitute for elbow grease (does anyone know where you buy this from btw ). Thanks in advance Steve

I suspect elbow grease is best for cleaning ,I used AG engine clean as it is non caustic.
However after getting a new set of 108s under warranty I have followed advice from this forum and used
Poorboys wheel sealant .

I can now just wash with normal shampoo and the dust etc just washes off,
fantastic stuff :driving:

I have always found That elbow grease comes free when your enjoying what your doing (OOO EERRR Missus) other than that it is pretty hard to come by. :P

Keep on top of them and it's a piece of cake. I use a MF mitt and clean the inners everytime.

Having just had my 108's replaced for the 2nd time by my dealer even though I am out of warranty I have run a bead of silicone round the inner split to see if it will help keep the corrosion at bay. I have nothing to loose as they won't replace them again.

And as above use poorbooys or similar and keep it topped up as it really does help.

As above keep on top of them do not let the brake dust bake on that way no need for wheel cleaners just regular shampoo and a good wheel wax will make cleaning easier.

I use one of these for cleaning around the allen bolts http://www.lakeland.co.uk/sonic-scrubber-pro-detailer-brush/F/product/21569

Cheers guys sounds like a mixture of elbow grease and love then :D . Steve

Loads of stuff on here about looking after 108s but two critical things for me are:

*Always dry the inner rim completely so you don't leave water/cleaning fluids against the inner joint between the star spoke and main rim.
*After a thorough clean, dry and degrease - run a thin bead of clear silicone aound the inner joint of the star spoke and rim to seal the joint (yes you will have to remove each wheel to do it)

Usual regular clean and wax should then see you OK - now into year 7 with mine and no corrosion.....

Alan as a matter of interest can you confirm your Z4 is driven all year round with you being out of the country a lot.

But how do you clean those little holes near the studs? i once put a qtip in there to clean the inside of them (and the screws).. but seemed excessive!

I find if i wax my wheels every so often it makes is much easier to stay on top of them.

Now I know what to do with unused basic electric tooth brush and used heads :D

Great idea

Yes regular use as Mrs J takes advantage of my absence in all waethers ( ) to enjoy the Zed (with written instructions on how to clean etc etc).

I sealed my 108s fron new and only use soap and water to clean with a cheap toothbrush for the bolts. After each wash I use a paper towel to ensure the joints are clean and 'extract' the water. Twice a year the wheels come off for a deep clean and to check the silicone seal and a full wax for the inner rim.

I think it's essential after each wash to clean and dry the inner rim. Most people wash and then let the car stand - any excess water in the inner rim then drains to the bottom and attacks the joint which starts the corrosion. Sounds like a pain in the proverbial but I like the look of the 108s.I know we shouldn't have to go through all this nonsense.....

Hello all,

Old post I know but my question is what do you use on the chrome outer lip of the rims? I can see some faded parts that are difficult to remove. I tried normal car wax but still the fade does not completely shine.

Cheers!
