Cleaning products and 108s

I've let my 108s get into a pretty poor state over the winter and a quick 'going at' with car shampoo and a sponge didn't do the trick today.

In the past i've used a wheel cleaning product from either Auto Glym or Meguiars, but when I bought my Z4 the dealer told me I shouldn't use this sort of product on the 108s.

What is the general opinion here? OK to use something, or do I need to have a go with warm water and a toothbrush (please no!).

Naughty Boy :poke:

I always clean mine thoughly everytime I was the car including the inners.

Megs Hot Rims is meant to be OK with split rims though and I have used it once or twice.

In the past i used Comma alloy wheel cleaner, found it very effective in moving stubborn grime. But these days i only use soap and water maintaining them regularly.

I use BMW wheel rim cleaner. All Autoglym products must not be used on split rim wheels.

Anything will be fine as long as it is NOT acid cleaner based.

That Wonder Wheels stuff for example, cleans them back well, but dulls the laquer/clearcoat, and any weak areas/splits will be penetrated and accelerate any corrosion of the laquer, which will just be 100% bad news on the 108's outer rim!

Soft products applied/soaked will be best. Once clean, LOTS of wax!

Thanks, all, for your advice. Looks like the safest way forward is to get some BMW wheel cleaner.....should be ok.

Won't be letting them get in such a state again.
