Clarksons replacement

I dont like fifth gear, I like it better than TG.
It has nothing to do with me knowing how a diff works or something like that :idunno:
And if you think " A lot of people like the glamour and the feel they get from driving good cars," is a relevant argument, TG is most of all about very expensive supercars. 99% of the cars displayed there and they do stories about are cars we'd never be able to afford (and that has become more and more so over the years). It's either that or 100 ways to blow up a caravan.
I'm sure thats much more entertaining than fifth gears boring team test of a ford mondeo, but that's the whole point. TG has nothing to do with cars, certainly not cars we drive.
What I'm trying to say is that it's irrelevant if you're into cars or not when you watch TG; you want to be entertained. Thàts why its so popular, thàts why it appeals to the masses. Because of it's simple jokes. Not because it has any relevance to the cars you or I drive.

Eeesssshhhh, dude, your missing the point. I'm saying people like the glamour and feel they get from driving in respect of any performance car, a Z4 an MX5 whatever it is to them that makes them feel that way, it doesn't have to be a Ferrari. What I mean is TG in general (regardless of the car) shows driving and motoring as an enjoyable and fun exercise, FG doesn't (to me anyway). And in the same token yes I like seeing cars being reviewed on TV that I'll never own, why wouldn't I?! Better than just being a mystery to me that have the odd showing on YouTube by unknown people.
Why would I want to see a review of a Mondeo or a Golf TDI? If I was going to buy one I would research the internet, and I see them out and about every day on the roads. LaFerrari on the other hand I don't and I thought TG did a interesting review of it.

Anyway, that's my take on it, end of for me, tomato's/tomatoes.

Kidd wouldn’t be a bad replacement for Clarkson – but realistically the BBC has only one choice that would tick all the boxes. That choice is German racing driver Sabine Schmitz.

Schmitz knows a lot about cars, and possibly even rivals The Stig in terms of ability. She has appeared from time to time on Top Gear in the past, and shown herself to possess exactly the right mix of knowledge and boisterousness for the job every time. Plus, she is both German and a woman, a combination of traits so alien to the majority of Top Gear viewers that the whole show would probably self-destruct within an hour of her taking the job. And surely, at this point, that would, as they say, be the best outcome for everyone involved.
 
So Dermot O'Leary has quit te X Factor after 8 years and he's now being tipped to be the new presenter of Top Gear. Can't quite see that one myself, seems a strange choice but it's probably more of a press, bookies etc jumping on the who's a presenter and might fancy a new job bandwagon.

I assume it will need three new presenters and whoever they are, I'm sure it'll make for an interesting change.

I'd definitely cough up millions if I could secure their services as it's guaranteed income from a show they produce.

BBC lost the cow.

It's now someone else's pot of gold.

Top gear wasn't about cars only. It was about Chernobyl and Burma and a host of other special features with cars thrown in.

It was about the reasonably sized car competition and the real rivalry F1 drivers exhibited on track.

And it was a show made in Britain with old school british feelings.

I shudder at the thought of Sabine Schmidt making jokes.

I also don't think she would be able to be funny episode after episode.

And if you want a Clarkson type personality: she isn't smug enough. Maybe someone like Simon Cowell is....
 
Personally love top gear and the presenters. Sometimes the stunts are a bit cringey but overall it was a great show. A program for car fans, presented by car fans......perfect for me. I'm not sure the BBC are going to be able to replicate the success with new presenters. Time will tell but I just can't see it. I dont envy whoever has the job of finding the replacements. Clarkson for starters is a one-off, his career started in an era when an opinion and personality were allowed. Modern day presenters are much like modern music, computer generated clones, who are told how to dress, talk and act.

I would imagine the three presenters will be snapped up by another channel and they would possibly take the crew etc.
 
Shows such as this should start by informing the potential audience that it is not PC and if you think you may be offended in any way - switch off!
 
Guy Martin gets my vote. Chris Harris can drive, but on screen he is more wooden than an oak dining table. :thumbsdown:
 
I haven't heard a single name mentioned yet who I think would be a good successor, therefore I conclude there probably isn't a good one (IMO of course)....

Quite a few of the names mentioned I'd think just dull and one or 2 would mean I just woudn't watch as I don't like them at all!
 
There is a woman who does the Telegraph car reviews, she is pretty good.

I think if they have a woman, she has to be stunningly hot, the way VBH was back in the day, and to older people like PVR and Bing, Angela Rippon!!
