Suzy Pery, Sabine Schmidt and Jody Kidd would get my vote!

Sounds good ta me

Having said that, I nominate myself. :driving:

Don't tell you wouldn't want a job like that given the chance :fuelfire:

If my nominations got the job, I would be the sofa!

Who the hell is Chris Harris????? I Googled him and am still non the wiser..Chris Evans is a ginger pillock. Now Sabine,Suzy and VBH that maybe worth watching..

See you Jezza, No more Top Gear for me

Unfortunately, and ironically much like Clarkson himself, whoever takes over the helm in whatever shape it takes will be damned by approx 50% of the public - regardless. Such has been the way in recent years with the current polarising format and moreso now it's future success is under the microscope.

I'd like to see it go back to a proper motoring show.
I'm really not bothered about seeing three bellends make a hovercraft out of a transit!

That's why I stopped watching top gear about 10 years ago. I watched the occasional specials if the idea appealed to me, but cars got very secondary very fast on that show. I liked fifth gear better, and now if I watch such stuff, it's youtube clips from drive network etc, and the occasional power lap clips....
It all got very 'forced' very fast, where you could sense the discussion, like indeed 'to make a hovercraft out of a transit' or a 'bomb out of a caravan'....
Once or twice is funny, but not 174 times....
Television for the masses.....

I don't think Top Gear ever pretended to be anything else to be fair, and that's what made it good, light entertainment on an otherwise boring schedule on a Sunday night. IMO, Fifth Gear is incredibly boring, I've never made it through a whole episode. Maybe its the presenters, the production/camera work or a combo of it all, but to me they make cars boring and geeky a lot of the time, there's no flair, excitement or edginess to it. It seems to fall into the category of all cars are great but some are a bit greater than others.
I thought Top Gear went through a bit of a rough patch in the last year or so but the most recent ones seemed to be picking up again and was worth tuning in for again. Great shame IMO.

If you like cars, spend some time watching some of his videos:

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8AMAhCRmep7VJKe1sxvHFg

He is basically an old EVO mag journo, done some YouTube videos, Blogger, car journo etc

If you also like watching car videos, I rate Harry Metcalfe's channel:

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIB5XXHNAWWzTOw6guIMYCg

They are both cheap production youtube videos, but usually great content and very well presented etc.

He can drive a bit too:

:D

But yeah, he doesn't exactly make Top Gear-style shows and that's the whole point.

Alan Carr and Jimmy Carr - at least their surnames suit the role ............ and maybe Azi Farni, who I find oddly attractive. She was great on Moto GP when the Beeb had it - another one they let go. idiots!

That's because fifth gear is a show about cars, and top gear is a show about Jeremy Clarkson.
Besides the power lap (which creates a nice database with video footage about performance from cars) top gear holds no real informational value on cars imho.

I think they should finish the series off with Clarkson there, albeit in a reduced role. then after its done put it to bed, get rid of all three of them and figure out what to do. without any of them it just wont be right as the show is as much about them as it is cars. just shoving in anyone will not work in its current guise.
i would even go as far to say the beeb should just let the whole shebang go. it obviously is being curtailed by the bbc's policy. let sky or whoever buy it and run it as they like. stop curtailing them to be politically correct and a middling to fit in with the bbc policy and let them find their place as commercial venture.

......pretty much exactly what I said  Although are you suggesting cars are boring and geeky? Top Gear has done more for the car industry than Fifth Gear ever would. It's got people who aren't that interested in cars, interested, and that's a good thing. My other half would be bored to death watching Fifth Gear, but can quite happily watch Top Gear because it's funny and entertainment, and still generally about cars, just in a more fun way than FG.

You obviously like the more technical programmes regarding cars which is cool, they're different programs, but TG will never be the same without the group of them presenting, and that's a shame, as there's little else on TV like it.

There's a reason why Fifth Gear is on the History channel of all places and that's because most people don't and wouldn't watch it. I've tried since it's been back on and omg it's really dreadful

I think that if you need the adolescent jokes from clarkson&sidekicks to get interested in cars, you're not really into cars....
Just my 2 cents...

Its entertainment for the masses, like britain got talent and all that kind of stuff. It has nothing to do with cars.
If you make a program about cars, almost nobody watches it because most people arent really into cars.
People in general like mindless entertainment, simple jokes, that kind of stuff... Topgear is a great example of that.
It has nothing to do with 'doing things for the industry' whatever you mean by that. It was a BBC money machine.

Why not Marty and moog from mighty car mods? I can only imagine the stuff they could create like the hover transit episode on tg. And they sure do understand cars.

This could end up being the forums record longest ever thread, containing two opposing viewpoints said in hundreds of different ways.

My money is on 67 pages and no real answers.

Are you implying this is getting boring.... :tumbleweed:

It'll be like Gray and Keys when they left Sky ,initially there was a big fuss and then after a few months everyone forgot and in fact it ended up being a lot better . Maybe Clarkson and his pals will end up like Gray and Keys on Al jazzeira testing high end bling mobiles for people who have more money than sense .

Well yes, but some people don't care how a diff works or how the internal specifications of an engine work to give it x amount of horsepower, a lot of people don't care about that, doesn't mean they are not 'into cars'. A lot of people like the glamour and the feel they get from driving good cars, how it actually works as a package is irrelevant to most people. Your obviously quite erm...'in depth' in your car knowledge, which is fine, but what your saying just comes across as snobbery. If I don't watch FG and prefer TG that means I'm not really into cars?? No, it just means I find FG boring and the way they present cars makes me yawn.

I don't think anyone's saying TG is high level stuff with in depth knowledge on cars, but it's fun, enjoyable and makes motoring interesting, which isn't what driving for all of us is about? Not like any of us are millionaire professional racing drivers. Yes it's car entertainment for the masses, and in general its worked very well, as someone else said there's a reason FG is shown on the History channel. But if your above all that, then hey good for you :)

It is a pointless argument though, you like FG, I prefer TG, as many others will have different viewpoints on the two as well, its horses for courses.
