Chris Evans is new Top Gear presenter

I really liked the show. I don't mind Chris Evans but I don't think his rather "manic" sense of humour will be as appealing to me as Clarkson et al's was. Let's see. In the meantime I'm looking forward to seeing what the trio have planned next.

God forbid it turns into a sensible motoring show for boring f*****s/anoraks. It will probably now be subject to rigid editorial control too - kowtowing to the right-on, left wing luvvie culture that dominates the BBC.

I hope it doesnt go boring as you say OG, but i dont think you would employ Chris Evans if tht was the plan.

bloody called it. :headbang:

officially the end of one of my favourite tv shows :( I'll give it a try once, but I'm pretty sure I won't be watching, he grinds my gears.

I am not a fan of his voice, I find it a bit whiny and grating after 10 - 15 minutes, so cannot see it lasting for me - I cannot listen to his radio shows. IMO effectively a face for radio and a voice for mime...

I would not be surprised to see Plato on the team also - I did like a few of his segments on Fifth Gear.

Perhaps Evans can bring Billie Piper onto the set - now she, I can watch..... especially on Penny Dreadful :titshake:

Thing is, this will piss of much of the current faithful but it wil attract the sort of people who like his radio show.

But not me.

I think he's a twat.

jodie marsh and guy martin would round the team up, it seems that a few of you dont like chris evens, but take a look at clarkson in the early days he was poor, and i know iam in the minority but top gear had its day, i stopped watching a long time ago it just became repetitive , with out stars in a car it was the same show different location

Maybe add a female presenter/driver
...that German women that did the Nurburgring track piece.
Sabine Schimtz.

That was good :-)

Just goes to show how loved Top Gear is as a format that people care so much and it polarises opinion

On the subject of statement u-turns, it's media. There's a respect there for previous presenters who had only just been canned as well as practical negotiations.

And thankfully it's not as left wing luvvie as you'd imagine OG

Evans is on R2 now explaining the U turn. Apparently only yesterday did May and Hammond bail out.

Even though I loved the programme and the presenters, Clarkson and co were beginning to look old, they were looking tired and even bored at times . . . . .

This format has been around a long time and it was getting a little long in the tooth

So I'm looking forward to a new format and new presenters.

:driving:

You can guarantee the first episode will have a massive audience as everyone tunes in to see what its like, then I think It will drop massively as it just becomes another boring car show.

I would personally rather watch something like "For the Love of Cars" or one of the Chris Harris/EVO TV Road trips/Harry's Garage Videos.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRjGN--R4pE This is a great watch

A piece of knob cheese replaced by a lump of curdled fanny batter! The only thing that could make it even worse would be to include Jodie Kidd, the exemplar of braindead.

Guy Martin and Jason Plato would bring some enthusiasm into the show.

I will watch it to see if the new format is any good.

I used to be a R2 fan and always listened in the morning but all of a sudden really went off C.E and now can't really stand him. Coupled with his strange face on TV it might just be too much. I will be interested to see who they pick for the other presenters but suspect Plato might be in there somewhere...

I guess we watch this space and see.

Yes she would certainly add something interesting to watch :!: or do you mean rah rah Jodie Kidd?

I like the idea of Chris Evans as host but Jodie Kidd. After watching her with Quinten Wilson once, I don't think so. Nice eye candy
and she can obviously race cars but TV presenting is not for her.

Here is the clip from the Chris Evans breakfast show re how it all came about. I wonder if May might be enticed to work with Evans here and possibly Hammond?

This is a slightly shorter version but the quality sounds a bit kak http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-33162666

Why didn't they get Chris Harris… Younger, fun and knows how to drive…

I like Chris Evans, I also liked the entertainment of the lads but the recipe was ageing and they were out of control. It wasn't really much about cars more stupid s**t they could do with them. Im more interested in the cars than what idiots can do with them.

Good move from BBC if you ask me. Evans is a decent guy and just made himself a hell of a lot richer no doubt.

Be interesting to see who comes along for the ride but also expect Plate will be in there, and possibly Jodie Kidd.
