Cheapest Insurance thread (UK)

Well, another year and another insurance increase

Not changed anything, but my renewal came up £100 more expensive than last year. Remembered to cancell the almost universal 'auto-renew', and asked my current insurer what they 'could do' to reduce the premium...£50 less was their offer.

Spent a couple of weeks since getting my renewal through and found plenty that would offer similar cover for around about the same price, but 5 of them wanted a £3000 excess :o

Finally went back to my current insurer after fiddling around on various comparison websites and got a policy for more or less what I paid last year, and at the end of the call they had the cheek to say that if I'd called them first (which I did) I wouldn't have had to spend all my time phoning/clicking around as they would have done me a 'good deal'.

FFS :headbang:

You'd think with over 10 year's NCB on high performance cars (modified Corrado VR6 and two e34 M5s), covering 20-30,000 miles a year, they'd have realised that I'm not a high risk.

Swift Cover always come out cheaper, when I look for a quote, but I hear bad stories about them when it comes to makeing a claim, i dont know if there is any substance in these stories or if they are urban myths, but it does put me off.

I'm 50 got wife and son as named drivers and its £750 from swinton( have 3 claims because i insured my daughter when she passed her test, 3 cars smashed, that i bought her, you could'nt make it up.)

Just did a quick check on GoCompare:

Cheapest is DNA with a £1071 quote, unfortunately that's with a £3000 excess.

Next cheapest is £1,199.26 with Swift Cover, including Legal and Courtesy Car, protected NCB.

I'm 30 years old, driving since 18, 7 years+ NCB, 3 points on my licence. The thing that's putting it so high is probably my location, Manchester (M40).

** EDIT ** Just came home to find the renewal quote from Elephant waiting on my doorstep, I was expecting them to be around £1200 going off the additional premium I had to pay when moving to the Z4 from my old Ford Focus. Turns out the renewal quote is £830!

I'm extremely pleased with that, considering the quotes I'd had online. That's for 11 years NCB, Protected No-Claims, 2 named drivers (my mother and my girlfriend who's 26), personal injury cover, 1250 of hifi gear, £350 voluntary excess and only £60 compulsory excess.

My renewal came in, its gone up 10% - £452 for me (30) and my girlfriend (25) fully comp, 12k a year, 11k value - protected no claims, but no legal.

Chris Knott came in at £415, but they can't touch the other half (good or bad thing? )

I've got 7+ years NCB - ok postal code - going for new quotes everything is coming up high except elephant at £512.

Was going to 'challenge churchill' but thing the dog'll say awww no. as they would have to drop from a  £1,200.

Crazy Crazy

Just got insurance for my Z4 sdrive 2.3 and its £7 a month extra till the end of my years insurance(June) a quote for the car fully comp came in at £325 for the year (not to bad tbh)

Ps that was with Esure

Bell have been best for me;

Roughly £1500 for 10 months cover
2 years NCB
20 years old

Few tips for us young ones:
Mum and GF as named drivers,
Mum brought it down by £800,
GF brought it down by another £400,
Parking on street reduced by £200 (appose to been garaged??),
Classing myself as a IT supervisor or Engineer brought it down (appose to been a IT manager)

EDIT: My previous car BMW 318CI was £980 for 10 months, I don't think £500 increase is bad for a 3.0si and worth triple the value of my 318.

AXA seem remarkably good for me at least at the moment. Just under £500 on a Z4 3.0Si Coupe, i'm 34 + wife 30, 9yrs NCB, no claims but i have an SP30 42 day ban, next best is Swift at high £500's.

If you have a Z4M Coupe try AXA. They don't normally 'do' sports cars from what I could work out as they didnt seem to want to quote on any convertible car I tried to input but I think the coupe is acceptable to their criteria.

35 years old, 8 NCB, £366. Limited to 8k miles per year.

They declined to quote on the Z4M Roadster and a number of other lesser sports cars I put through Compare the Market website.

In comparison the cheapest quote I got on the roadster was about £480 for the M, £440 for the 3.0Si with other companies.

I've just renewed mine - £457 for the year. Thats with only one year of ncb and a codger status age of 62
Although I have got a full bonus on my other car, most companies dont seem to take this into consideration.
The insurance was arranged thro a broker in Kendal and is with Royal & Sun Alliance.

I did try the Chris Knot route, but he was unable to match my eventual quote by a good margin. I'll try him again next year.

My renewal with Esure came through two weeks ago.

It was £540 which was about £10 more expensive than last year.

I went onto their site and did a new quote, exact same details, and it came up as £374.

I then added on no claims protection which took it up to £408.

I rang them up explained the situation and they honoured the online quote.

Result :D

My car insurance is due for renewel in April with Admiral.
I had an email from Castle Cover for the over 50's (which I am unfortunately) because we have our House and Contents through them which they were great for.
Anyway I thought I would do an online quote.
Bearing in mind my last car was a Toyota Supra mk4 3.0 Twin Turbo,(which I miss greatly :( :( ) older car but not much difference in value to my Z4. £275 fully comp, wife added, protected NCB.
As I was doing the quote they rang me (they knew I was doing the quote) so proceeded over the phone. Exact same cover as Admiral.

Well I fell of my f%$^ing chair and asked if they were having a laugh.

£808, yes 808 sp$%&ing pound. He couldnt understand why I was laughing.

So I will be shopping around over the next few weeks.

ive just changed inshurance company
now i pay €56 per month for 2004 3,0 z4 full coverage

is that good??? i think so!

Depends on your age. claims etc.

ok age 42

no claims for 19 years

i guess for somwhat older persons the insurance in england is more affordable then when you are say 19years old.
in holland this is also true but not so expensive as in the uk
a normal car will cost about €1000 for a young person i think

Bmw insurance quoted me £1056,
Phoned my insurance, they told me they dont cover cars over £20000, so they cancelled my insurance, and gave me another quote of £1169.

I then went on confused, cheapest on there was £479 with admiral, that was me telling them 18 inch wheels, red leather and f & r park sensors.
I cant believe they put £9 on for the park sensors.

Are people really telling an insurer about a factory fitted option such as parking sensors? Surely insurance companies are looking for 'after factory' modifications only?

For me & the wife admiral were cheapest quote, slightly cheaper if you look via the tesco.com insurance website but even cheaper still if we went via Diamond (they now insure guys too apparently!!)
