Cheapest Insurance thread (UK)

NOTE Swift cover. in the contract wordings they can use recycled parts and or not OEM. so if you have an accident, dont expect either new parts or even BMW. you pay for what you get. So forget about having your car repaired at a BMW official garage, and put back together with old scrp items.

Me, I had a accident over 2 years ago n my first 03 Z4,(NOT MY FAULT, the other driver was prosicuted for dangerous driving, simply not seeing me and pulling out on a country road, forcing me off the road and down a ditch at 50 mph) over £10,000 worth of damage, Direct lien first had the car towed to the approved garage, but I contacted them the next day about moving it to an approved garage, I did not need to as this was already being done. All work 100% and did not effect the corrosion wty. It took 2 months to sort out and the car was perfect, the next month I purchased my next z4, no issues. Stuck with direct line. Now changing again should be picking up the 3rd Z4 this week and will be going back wih direct line. Swift cover may have been very cheap about £100 less but if you want used parts put on the car go for it.

Also we need to be a bit more detailed in the quotes. It makes a big difference for age, 3rd party, fully comp, then more for protected no claims. Then the excess vol and comp amounts 0 , 100, 600 1000. then medical, spare car, solicitor, park on the drive, street. and then the very small print of used parts.

Direct line 2.5SI SPort 08 Overnight on drive.
Full no claims discount, fully comp, protected no claims, £300 total excess, replacement car, medical, solicitor. £512.

swift £440 or £320 for no protected no claims and £500 excess, both that will possibly void the BMW corrosion wty with used or non bmw parts.

Mine's gonna go up when i renew in October. Got 3 points last night, thought this guy was being a cock driving close and wanting a race so i went for it and it turned out to be an undercover copper

What was he driving? Something like a Focus ST was it?

2.0 Turbo Astra...i don't even know why i bothered. I just wasn't having him driving close to me like that so i put my foot down. I think before i do that now

YOu could of declared he harrassed you into going faster. I`ve been guilty of that before, when someone is too close and I don`t want anyone that close so I pull away a bit (but sensibly). I know we shouldn`t do that, but when you own a nice car you can`t help but want to preserve it so it`s tempting to pull clear if there`s some ar** is close behind in some crappy car who seemingly doesn`t care if they damage it by rear ending you.
I once oberved someone close behind and they nearly rear ended me when I was forced to brake hard - very close call, hence why I`m rather try to manage the gap myself

Admiral (who coincidentally insured my previous Z3M Coupe) just insured me for £393 on the Z4M Coupe.

Woo-hoo! Thanks to Allah for no claims bonuses and having a garage. When I bought the car, BMW insurance quoted me £1,126

Thats very good.
BMW quoted me £1200 for the Z4M also but to get that Ii would of had to fit a tracker also.

I`m still with Elephant who are quite cheap, but not as checp for me as £393 though (mine is about £500 if I remember correctly);

Just had my renewal through with Admiral;

Age: 27
NCB: 3 years
No accidents
No convictions / points
Class 1 Advanced Driver
Tracker Installed
Parked on driveway
Postcode just outside Newcastle Upon Tyne

Renewal - £825

Bell (apart of admiral) quoted £678 so I rang Admiral and they said they would match it. Funny that.

Also, they can access any online quote you get off any insurance company, he knew all my quotes from different companies as soon as I rang in. Wasn't aware of that. He said they share quotes to prevent fraud.

Anyone had any experience with Swiftcover? They came out miles cheaper then anyone else (£299 for the M).

My renewal with Churchill is £423.

The Z4-Forum resident insurance brokers could not get near any of the quotes I had ...

Yeah i am with swiftcover, very good, i only paid approx £350 fully comp on a 53reg 3.0. But that was after they honoured the no claims on my first policy with them for the z4 too, which no one else would do. generally they are very good, i've been with them for three years on my other car and never had any probs (touch wood!)

I'm becoming more hacked off with the main insurers as I look to renew on the 1st of September. I was with More Than and they sent me a renewal of £600.00 which was a massive hike in price from last year. While I was on the phone (to India) to try and get them to think again, I did an online quote with them to find it was £150.00 cheaper as a new customer. I told her this and she said 'oh well just take that then' I dont think so, not when they tried to stiff me for a £150 quid. I've searched loads of others and find the excess is stupidly high or the hire car you would get in the event of an accident is 1litre Chevrolet rubbish. I've just tried LV who took me throught the whole process online before telling me they would only consider my z4 2.2 if I fitted a tracker device! whats the point of having maximum no claims bonus nowadays? Fed up and going to open a bottle of wine while the minutes tick away to renewal day.

Just renewed with Swift:
2003 3.0 SMG
TR7 Postcode
Garaged
Unlimited mileage
Only myself driving (37yo) – pulled off the other driver as being under 30 it was making all the quotes high)
5yrs NCB
No points or convictions
£330

Cheaper than anyone else by over £100. My now ex-broker wanted £650!

I am working on a UK insurance leaderboard. Still a work in progress but you will now see an "insurance provider" dropdown in your profile.

If you care to participate please select your insurer from the dropdown list. Hopefully we will be able to use this to gauge which insurers are better at the current moment :D

I received renewal from morethan this morning. They offered 20% discount for 2nd year, but they raised the premium and discounted it back. So the renewal premium is actually slightly higher than last year. £792 with £550 excess!!! :x I am almost 34 and have no points for over 5 years (touch wood) and 1 claim (storm damage) within 5 years, with maximum NCB. My Z4 has OEM carbon diffuser, so some insurers treat it as modified car (higher premium). I have sent my info to Chris Knott and see if they can offer lower premium with lower excess.

I had tried gocompare, moneysupermarket, confused, etc. All showed very similar prices. :( Any other direct insurers I can try?

ksher that sounds very expensive, I'm 36 and only pay around £400 with modified items such as non runflats and styling changes with esure. Mines due within the month done some searching online and under £400 looks good and will give the forum guy a ring. They were competitive last year only £20-30 with unlimited mileage over my 8k limit.

But wife claimed on her car with esure this year after she wrote it off on black ice and the paid out promptly and very good settlement fee, so with me it maybe a case of better the devil you know.

esure wants over £1k with £250 excess and NCB protection and legal cover. :x My annual mileage is up to 12k though. Some people only use Z4 at weekend, and they may pay very low premium.

Do you have a dodgy postcode then?

What is interesting is that morethan wanted the same as esure for me, last year. I went with esure as they understood the mods better being and uk call centre, where as morethan didnt give me the confidence with the language barrier.

There are many other BMW and Merc around my house, and my area is the best part of Luton (outskirt of north Luton). Insurers may classify Luton as high risk as London, Manchester.

I have just used http://www.visitcars.co.uk/car-insurance/insurance-post-code-risk.html to check my post code. It is medium post code risk (right in the middle of the gauge).

Mine hardly moved up the scale :D , so that would explain some, when I get mine sorted I will let you know.
