Cheap Trolley Jack

Need to take the wheels off for a good clean but obviously there ain't no jack

Anybody bought and used one of the cheap halfrauds/Argos/Motorworld ones?

I bought the 2.25 ton one from Halfrauds when I had a Boxster and it wouldn't fit under the car as too high. Don't want to make th same mistake twice :)

hi, i just drive up on some planks of wood to gain some height  . ps boxster or z4 which is best?

I bought an inexpensive hydraulic one from Lidl or it may have been Aldi. Fits fine.

I suppose it makes a difference that I don't have the lowered m sport

Halfrauds got an off for the Big Red jack plus stands at 34 quid which is quite good. If I wasn't in a hurry then would probably order the low one off eBay

To answer the question on Boxster vs Z4 it depends on how you drive. If you drive hard ad fast all h time then Boxster it is. But for every day enjoyment the Z4 s way better!

Depending if you use the sill jacking points check that there isn't a plastic insert, haven't checked on the Zed but on the 1 Series you needed a jack pad insert so you don't crush the plastic.

Tim.

Yes I noticed the fact the jacking point are hollow
Was hoping that the pad on the jack would work on the plastic surround themselves

I got a low profile jack from ebay, was a few £££, also got a jack pad which fits in the jacking points on the sill,

The jackpad is a useful bit of kit, it has a notch in it which works on the mrs focus as well as fitting in my parents megane..

yes am buying a low jack off ebay for 38quid although i am not sure the 16 quid for a jack pad is worth it. most manage without it or use a block of wood cut to size. if it was a fiver then it would be a no brainer but seems a hell of a lot for a small lump of plastic

Jack pad? Is that the cylindrical hard rubber pad ?
ie the one that looks like an ice hockey puck - and probably is an ice hockey puck? :P

No it's an adaptor for the jacking points on the bmw so the jack sits properly

I've just ordered this one having been recommended on the other forum thread (note that the come-on £28 price is actually £40 once you add VAT and next-day shipping - still good though) the 360 handle function looks useful. I'll update on how it performs once it arrives.

Get this one, cheap as chips. Drive up on a couple of pieces of scaffold board, or take the front wheels of the jack , why spend £80 + on a jack when this would do

just bought this one:

good reviews from buyers plus includes a case and an insert pad

I bought a cheap one similiar to the one above.
I find it buckles under load as the wheels allow the jack to move.
Car seems quite heavy so would buy a substantial jack and also cheap axle stands as backup.
Also be aware how low the car is when you want to get the jack under it.
Especially as i place a thin piece of wood so as not to damage the jacking point.

"I find it buckles under load as the wheels allow the jack to move."

It should move as you jack the car up as the lifting arm swings thro an arc - in effect the lifting point move horizontally. That why removing the front wheels is not a paricularly good idea either !
