Only downside is the BT receiver I got is a bit too basic and doesn't remember the pairing. I'm looking at swapping it out for something that can store the pairing so it links up automatically as soon as the car is on...

This remembers the pairing and has exceptional audio quality..... https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B078W1HQCK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1&tag=z4fo-21

Power it with this.... https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07169FM6H/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I just fitted the £30 Amazon option. Was dead easy to find the cables, maybe because I have the CD changer. Works nicely, only thing I'm missing is track titles on the nav screen, but maybe that's an Android issue. Steering wheel controls work to skip tracks too

I bought one also. The streamed music is great. I have a parrot phone device so I use that for the phone and this thingy for the music.

I bought the blue music option. So off I went and opened up the boot and pulled back the carpet. Found the cd changer but there is only one cable going into it!!! There’s no sign of the other!

Anyone got any suggestions?

I have the changer in the boot . It has both sockets but there is only one cable. I have looked and looked but can’t find the larger cable

There were only two plugs plugged into the changer. These are the two you need. Sorry I didn't take a photo or anything whilst I was in there.

I got one of these.

Best £30 spent ever. It's no good for telephony, but great for music. There are two open connections in the boot. Just lift up the flap, find the connections and plug this in. The device is tiny. Then hop in the car and turn on the radio - select mode till you get to CD1.

On your phone you'll find a Bluetooth option called Blue Music. Pair your phone to that and any music you play will now come out the car's stereo.

Lead to one very happy teenage son. Of course now we have to listen to all his Spotify playlists in the car. Suffice to say we don't always agree on the merits of UK grime. Sigh.

Hi Dan
Will this fit an E86? It’s not listed as such on the Amazon page....

Does it have the co-ax style cable instead? Do you have the fancy sound system? If so you need the DSP adaptor.

Seems the amazon audio interface is a good option. However, before purchasing could someone elaborate on which bit of carpet the connectors are hiding behind? The bit covering the battery (I couldn't see anything) or the luggage partition wall, which seems a lot of hassle to unscrew (No3 in diagram: https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e86-z4-3.0si-cou/repair-manuals/51-body-equipment/51-47-floor-luggage-compartment-engine-compartment-trim-panel/GCsO4Br)

yep, it has a coax.

Does this mean I can't use the amazon Bluetooth adaptor?
Have you a link to the DSP one?

thanks

You need to take the back wall off, but I have only unscrewed the bottom fixings and pulled it up enough to get to the CD changer.

The Bluemusic Amazon one is by far the most integrated option, I just wish my iPhone connected to it automatically (at the moment it picks up the factory BT but I have to manually connect to the dongle)

This is the DSP adaptor. You need this as well as the Bluetooth adaptor if you have the DSP system.

Hi,
Thanks for the steer!
Didn't know there were bottom fixings...?

Thanks for your help :) Love this forum. Do you know how the 2 bare cables connect?

I connected them to the two wires on the 3-pin CD changer plug - one is +12v, one is ground and one is IBUS (the white one).

Why it's not wired up like that in the first place I don't know.

The +12v is a permanent live, the seller says the bluetooth unit turns off after 15 mins. Not sure if the DSP one does the same.

I'm just. Literally going to throw this out there.

I know it's nowhere near as neat as a proper all in one integrated solution. But it's twenty quid, sounds pretty good and does a job. I know there are better solutions which can be achieved with more effort.

But I'll be honest, I've not really thought about doing anything furhter as an upgrade since I bought it...

Delete the factory BT from your phone's connection list? Won't that then allow it to reconnect automatically?
