Changing the colour of the alloys

So the guys who sprayed up the front end for me took a good long look at the Z after I'd fitted it and pronounced that it would look really good if they reprayed the wheels in a darker graphite colour. Perhaps just a shade or so darker than the body colour. Normally I'd ignore such comments, but they know what they are doing, have an awesome reputation and are the local place to get a special job done.

So what does the 'panel' think? Could it work?

Anyone care to mess with this photo on Photoshop and see what it would look like? Not in my skill set to do it well....

I never like how rims are after they have been painted they seem too fragile and a bit rough. If you want it done right go powder coat. It is very durable and you can choose from a bunch of different finishes. I say go gun metal those would look really clean.

You mean like this?

If they think it'd look so amazing that they're willing to do it for free for you, sure. But otherwise not worth it if you have to pay for the work. Just don't wash your wheels for 3 wheels and your wheels will look darker than the body color. :)

Just don't clean your wheels for a couple weeks. You can then see what it would look like.

Coincidence? My aftermarket rims have rock chips and some other use damage. I thought about it and got some costs. It turns out that I can get a new set the exact darker shade I want cheaper than it takes to have rims refinished and re powercoated. You might want to consider that many rims are being offered (esp on ebay) for very little cash.

Thanks for the photoshop Wondermike - gives me a much better idea. IMHO it looks a bit more purposeful

Aftermarket wheels are a thought but I do prefer OEM. Just think those guys generally get it right and the quality is good. Spraying won't cost me much either and there wuold be a good few coats of lacquer to protect them.

In terms of powder coating - I've a fair amount of experience in that as I run off road vehicles and they have lots of coated components. Don't really like the finishes.

Keep thoughts coming - that's why I posted :) :)

Like I said above I'm surprised at how good they look. I prefer the darker ones though, or even these (got rid of the side badge too).
