Change your cabin filter!

I started on with the list of little jobs on the Zed yesterday and today, one of which was to swap in a new cabin air filter. The last time it was replaced was when I first bought the car about 3 years ago.

I was expecting it to be clean...ish but I wasn't expecting half the fekin forest to fall out of the filter enclosure! :o
It was also pretty black, I'm assuming from the smoky exhalations courtesy of my leaky valve cover gasket before I replaced that too.

It's a bit of a faff to replace and you have to contort yourself into a decent working position but it's well worth doing.

I change the air filter, oil filter and pollen filter every year. Oil too. It's cheap enough.
 
I used to often neglect the pollen filter too on the basis that it really doesn’t affect the reliability or longevity of anything. But when I finally got around to swapping it on the Z it came out very similar to yours! Now I do it every other oil service.
 
I did mine a few weeks ago, replacing with a Mann filter and tons of leaf debris fell out of the bottom. I hoovered around the cover before refitting, but neglected to look for anything 'up top' Is there an intake on the dirty side that collects crap and needs cleaning out, or is it just what falls out of the bottom?

Did wifey's Z this weekend as step one of 'operation get rid of the smoker smell'.
Upside down in the footwell with eyes full of dry leaf debris and other stuff I'd rather not know about!
New one was a git to fit!
Measured exactly the same as the one I removed but refused to go in that last centimetre! Took a bit of talking to!

I've had the filter for weeks now... dreading trying to change it with my bad back. :cry:

Stupid design imo as it would only have taken about a centimetre to make it square, hence not having to thrutch about in order to orienteer it into the correct position.
I dont think the direction of the creases in the filter is that critical.
But it goes in ok without squashing if you guide it up to the top of the enclosure with ur fingers.

Def get someone else to do it in that case.
I'm pretty agile and I found it a bit of a chew.

Just been offered these for £6 on ebay :thumbsup:
 
I just ordered mine and I got a great deal on a gym membership. Figure I'll be able to change this filter in 6 short weeks :thumbsup:
