Centre storage (between seats) lock?

Hi everyone

Does anyone know the definitive way that the locking should operate on an early 03 model for the storage box between the seats?

Via remote key only, or drive away locking or central locking button by handbrake??

Thanks

Oh?

I recently removed the centre panel to fix my satnav DVD drive and there was a plug that I had to unplug/plug in which looked like some kind of motor?? So I just assumed??

I wonder if it's just a coding thing then, ie build the cars all the same with the right hardware and solinoids but don't enable it??

Isn't that the pressure switch for the light inside?

I don't think it does lock. I'm happy to be corrected though

+1 Mine doesn't.

Yours should, it was fixed way before face lift models.

I remember some threads on here about it back in 2007/2008 but cannot remember the details.

You need to lock the car with the remote though, you cannot sit in it and press the centre console button. Just test quickly before the alarm goes off.

I thought it locked with the remote, along with the glovebox... Makes sense if you're leaving it parked with the roof down.

Wow! As many variations as cars it seems. :?
This is what an early BMW training manual says is supposed to be the way it works:

The storage compartment is integrated in the central locking system and can be
locked/unlocked using the remote control, the driver's-door lock or the Centerlock button.

What's stupid though is the centrelock button will also unlock the compartment when the car is locked and the top is down. :headbang: Great security feature there, BMW. Way to think things through. They did release an SIB with instructions on how to move the signal wire at the GM5 to a different pin so this does not happen. The wording in the SIB indicates the compartment should not normally lock when driving by autolock or centrelock. The pin mod outlined causes the centrelock to function whilst driving.

From memory I think thats what the fix was for to stop the centre console button from unlocking it when the car was locked.
