CDV - remind me...

Leeds - you know where it is
What is the purpose of the CDV? Clutch protection or something? I like my clutch the way it is personally so not really looking to change it - more like curious. If protection is it's game, does it protect on every gear change or is it just up (or down) through the 'box or, say, just for full bore shifts?

Expecting Srhutch's answer... starting timer...

Cheers

I suppose this could have gone in the main discussion area but this is my "home" - sorry Adamski!

Yes, the fluid restriction prevents the dumping of the clutch as such and therefore protects the drive train. It is therefore in every gear, but the most noticeable one is from first to second gear as a slower release is more noticeable and has a bigger effect than in the other gears. Side effect is the kangaroo effect if you do try to let it go too quickly.

For the M it is hot debated subject I have changed the CDV on a 2.5, 3.0 and on another M (not mine). Difference on the 2.5, massive, on the 3.0, massive, on the M - nothing. Others have reported a benefit on an M but I did not experience that at all so did not even bother with my own M changing it,

PVR T/A Srhutch :D

I think you two and Bing have this whole board covered from time to time...
good answer anyway

He only beat me because the lucky bugger works from home

Must admit I noticed the other day that I had overtaken PVR to be the second biggest gob shite on the forum, he is now in third place.

But the three of us have it wrapped up :D

Went to an Indy ref removing the CDV and he was dead set against doing it unless I was happy to wear my clutch prematurely.
I wouldn't have thought that they would want to turn away business. So I took their advice and left it in.

Anyone regret removing the CDV?

Never known anybody to regret removing the CDV.

You are more likely to wear it out quicker with the CDV as it induces clutch slip.

CDV does not protect the clutch, more the opposite, as srhutch said - it would wear it more as it is cheaper to replace the clutch than the drive train.

 - I think on the M removing the CDV doesn't make as much of a difference. And as we're talking about that specifically it's all good to post here :D

I've not removed mine yet, as mine is still under warranty. Removed the CDV in my 3.0i, difference was like night and day.

Might modify my CDV and punch the restrictor through it....

never regretted taking mine out.

drove an ///M a few weeks back that still had it in, kangaroo city 'til I remembered!

It would be remiss of me not to post as I have been maligned :D

Have you removed yours Steve ? And if so has it made a difference ? I do hate the kangaroo when I occassionally get it :x

Made a difference to me, though nothing night and day. Faster more positive release of the pedal if that makes sense? Took my shop 5 minutes to do I think and you can always just put it back in again if needs be
