CDV- question

Morning all

I’m doing my clutch delay removal today/tomorrow

I’ll clamp the line before removal, is it essential that you have to then bleed the clutch?

Lots of people dont but personally I would as the chances of not getting air into the system is unlikely.

Assume I can do it using a self bleed on the local nipple?

Same as bleeding brakes, just pump some new fluid through to double check there are no bubbles.

Hi Stuart (bigwinn), let us know how you get on. I may do my CDV on the weekend and I’m more concerned about bleeding the clutch than actually taking out the CDV.

Seriously considering doing the same. I hope this will spare my gearbox from trying to shift in gear with a partially actuated clutch. What a stupid valve!

Actually had this removed from the 35i today while in for its service, car feels even better now.

Did mine 4 weeks ago. No matter how careful you are air WILL be introduced into the system when removing the CDV so you will need to bleed the system, which is a simple straightforward process. While it is definitely better in operation there wasn't the dramatic improvement that some have suggested. Perhaps those that reported major improvements had air in the system prior to the removal of the CDV and after the system was bled correctly at the end it improved the way it operates (IMHO).

Managed to remove mine without bleeding and works fine. I did unclamp the hose while tightening to let fluid out and gravity to push any air out then topped up the reservoir. A year later and pedal is just as solid.
