CDV mod - a couple of questions...

Hi

I'm finally getting round to looking at the CDV mod for my zed. I keep reading about 'CDV DELETE' - is this the complete removal of the valve? or do you simply replace it with a modified valve? If so can anyone recommend a modified valve for me to purchase?

Sorry if I'm asking stupid questions, just a bit stuck on this one....

Cheers!

Cal

I'm guessing looking at your signature that your car will still be covered by a BMW warranty. As a result of this you may not want to remove the CDV totally incase it causes warranty issues in future.

Have a look here for the modified one http://www.zeckhausen.com/cdv.htm

They can be removed totally though if needs be.

How much does it cost to have fitted? And where would you get it done, assuming you don't want BMW to know about it?

£20/£30 at a local indy garage, thats all I did with mine, they had it up on the ramps and done in no time.

Ah, this explains what is going on - I thought my 'box or clutch or gear linkage needed a bit of noodling. After the direct bolt action of the TVR I am finding fast shifting frustrating in the Z4.

Buy a CDV from your local dealer for just under £10 and modify yourself.

thanks for the feedback. does it do the car any physical harm to remove the valve completely? besides the warranty issue....

if anything it looks after your car better, your clutch will last longer as it wont slp so much.

Does the SMG run a CDV I wonder?

Or is the computer trusted to not jolt the drivetrain with it's supersport shifting :D

Not relevant as the Auto models are boulevard cruisers anyway. :fuelfire:

Could we make this a sticky in the DIY section?

.. but the drivetrain is no longer protected (BMW words - not mine)

Although as far as I can see, this only means the drivetrain is slightly less protected than normal, rather than not protected at all - and this assumes the driver is going to drop the clutch with high revs every couple of minutes

However, the transmission has a guibo/flex-disc anyway, which was what they used on all the other ///Ms for the last 20 years to absorb some of the drivetrain shock - never had a problem with the clutches on either of the my e34 M5s, and they had 200kg more mass to move from standstill.

SMG doesn't have CDV.

When the application is a sports car I have a strong preference for non-automated gearboxes, whatever the manufacturer. Nothing to do with BMW. SLKs are mainly autos for instance - say no more. Simples.

To put this thread back on topic, my CDV valve is sitting waiting at Sytner for me to collect on Monday. Will try to get the work done this week.

Guys, can I have some advice please.

If I remove the CDV in my Z4MC I realise it will make shifting around town much easier. However, I find my car isn't too happy doing fastish 1st to 2nd gear shifts will removal of the CDV help in this area too?
