Cd changer

Quick question, I've ordered the pro 14 speaker system in the e89 and noticed an option in a catalogue for a 6 disc changer for the glove locker on certain models, anybody know if that's a standard fit on the pro or only fitted as an option?

Don't think it is standard fit but until I get my car I can't tell for sure

But wouldn't you be better off ordering the nav pack sick gives you 90gb(i think) of hard disc space and better idrive function? I have 6 CD changer in my current e86 but I hardly used this. In fact, most of my car listening had been radio + favorite CD of the time and I found using normal CD player more then adequate. I actually got too lazy to keep on changing CD s and stopped using it all together in the last couple of years.

Yep I ordered it with the I-drive sat nav so looking forward to putting stuff on the hard drive, it's just I know how long it'll take me to get round to doing it so if I can chuck a few cd's in there it'll do for the time being.

It's got a usb port so you should be able to load the songs up on it and transfer it across. On my wife's 3 series, ripping from CD took too long (20 min ish fir a CD) so I ended up doing this anyway.

Might be a good time passer whilst waiting?

Are you going for the radio cassette and 8 track option as well???

There should be a USB interface somewhere in the car where you can either download music to the hard disc or play straight from a memory stick

I'm surprised BMW are still offering CD changers as an option. Total waste of money

Yep will have to get cracking and load onto memory stick. Car's arriving much sooner than I thought so taken me a bit by surprise.
Not complaining though.. :D

I wouldn't bother with a multi CD player!

We have one in the Audi and it's rarely used - of more use in that car is the SD card facility.
In the E89 the USB replaces that facility.

Ive got a 32gb thumbnail sized USB in mine and over 4k tunes - sort them with the I drive.
What more could you need?

Loading CDs on to the hard drive took ages, I gave up.

I stick an iPod into the USB port, works fine, and contains 1000s of CDs. Album artwork displays on the idrive screen as well.

I think you only get a dozen CDs on the hard drive !
A 32gb usb stick is £15 and you can get weeks worth of music on it.
Use the socket in the arm rest and the short style of if you must use the full length stick us a flexi lead.

The CD Changer is an optional but as others have said put it on the Hard Drive. You can easily put your MP3s on to a USB and load it. The CD player also reads MP3s and you also have the additional USB Port in the arm rest. Plus you can use your MP3 player. You have many options which all work well

Many thanks for the replies all, i'm a bit stuck in the dark ages

Keep reading about the armrest usb for the memory stick Angie, I saw it in the brochure but i'm sure when I looked at an e89 last year the guy said his was in the glovebox up on the right hand side? Anyway doesn't matter, just curious really.

Right, quick game of space invaders before work, you guys will be telling me that's out of date next.........honestly, this forum....

If you go with the decent stereo option & the iDrive, there are 2 USB sockets.

One in the armrest, one tucked away at the edge of the glovebox.

Ah that'll explain it then, cheers Matt.

You also use the one in the glovebox to add the data on to the Hard Drive

How is that different to the one in the glovebox then Angie? I presume they are different as they wouldn't put two of the same in surely?

Ah the armrest one just allows you to play stuff through it and not add data right?

Correct  I kept trying to add the music and thought I was going mad until I did it via the glovebox.

The actual positioning of the one in the glovebox is bmws daftest design choice ever. Could they make it any harder to get to? :headbang:
