In the rain that is. :wink:

I've had some light rain before with the top down but if you go fast enough you don't get wet. This time it was different.

I always check the skies before dropping the top, and coming home from the dentist the other day it was overcast but not really threatening. I was on my way home, stopped at a red light, waiting to turn left....a big drop hit the windscreen with a "smack." 3 seconds later I could not see my hand in front of my face! I reached down for the button to raise the top, then the light turned green (advanced for me) and I checked what I could see in the rear view mirror - cars lined up behind me impatiantly waiting for me to move....crap! :headbang:

So I pulled away, getting pelted in the face with rain, and made my left turn and looked for a driveway. I could not see so had to turn the wipers on.....and on high too! :headbang:

Found a drive quickly, then pulled in and put the top up. Took stock of my condition....I was totally soaked, and so was the car.

I put the A/C on, then the rear defrost, and headed home. As I pulled away water came pouring out of the sun visors. :headbang:

Of course the rain stopped about 30 seconds after I pulled away. Got home and shot a couple of pics. This is 30 minutes after the rain by this time, so a lot had dried up, but you can see it was not pretty.

Wife arrvied home and asked why the car was parked outside...I showed her and after she stopped having a laugh she helped me wipe down the interior. A good detail inside is on my agenda for the weekend. :)

So, anyone else with a good soaker story?

Wow, that's a lot of rain. Glad you were able to pull over while you could. Overcast days can be very decieving.

Here's my soker story -- I was driving on the interstate one day with the top down. Sky was overcast, but no forecast for rain. All of the sudden, a few raindrops are felt, and then immediate downpour. I was on the highway, with no place to safely pull over. Fortunately the exit was 1/4mile away, and so I immediately exited and put the top up. I was only in the rain for a minute or two, but that was enough to leave my interior looking much like yours. Nothing a bunch of towels can't sop up though.

So yeah, it happens, but rather embarassing when it does :oops:
 
Fortunately, I do believe our cars were designed for some rain intrusion. Most of the electronics themselves are well out of the areas where water will accumulate and cause problems. At least with mine (yes, I have been caught out too), no problems so far. :)
 
Got caught one sunny afternoon on a slow moving expressway near Philadelphia. All of a sudden the sky just opened up and let go. No where to pull off so after a few minutes of getting soaked I slowed from 15 or 20 to a dead stop long enough to start the top going up. Once the top began to move I began catching up again with the car in front of me. I spent a good 45 min later doing some serious cleans up. This was on my previous 2003 Zed but no damage except the carpet took a few weeks to completely dry out.
 
Mine happened just a few months ago. I had to make a stop on my way home from work on a beautiful day. I knew i'd only be in for a couple minutes so I didn't put the top up. I was making small talk witht the clerk when i heard faint tapping from the ceiling. It took about 3-4 seconds for me to realize it was rain. I ran out to find a full deluge soaking my poor car. Fortunately I keep MF towels in the trunk and was able to dry in up before driving away but I felt soooooo stupid and worried that the seats, seat heaters etc were damaged. ovrkll, I think you're right because everything is still fine and there was standing water on the seats. Needless to say, I put the top up whenever I walk away now. :oops:
 
i was on i95 on the way home from miami and the sky decided to let loose some rain. it wasn't fun. i had to get off the freeway b/c there were no shoulders to turn into and i had to find the nearest gas station to park in. i was soaked*
 
Can't beat a good soakin' ... :rofl: but not so funny when it happens to you.

My wife has found a new way of operating the reinhold module. Running to the car the other day in heavy rain she blipped the button, doors opened and in she dived. Sadly for her she had hit the button 3 times and the roof sailed down soaking her leaving her flailing around to get the key in and roof up.

I of course got a kicking simply because as her husband and installer it was my fault. :roll:

Not been caught yet, but I'm sure it will one day.
I had an unexpected top down drive home last night, the first time I've bothered on my commute since it's all motorway but it wasn't that bad. I was slightly concerned over the threat of rain but the sky remained clear overhead. Once you kit 50-60mph the wind doesn't seem to get much worse at even higher speeds :thumbsup:

As Herminator, I've not been caught yet either... probably only a matter of time though :D
 
Coming back from Scotland in clear blue sky until I got to the lake district. I now know why it is called the lake district ,the most horrendous thunder and storm.

Yep - could not stop on the motorway and I got soaked with a capital S. It did not even seem the direct rain that was most of the problem, it was the spray from the other cars that got everywhere.

When I got home about 5 hours later, the seats looked like there was sand everywhere.
 
Coming back from a day road trip the other day I got caught in a big rain storm!!

I got a couple of spots of rain on my face..............

.... sorted by closing the window!! :P :rofl:
 
i always wonder what punishment (if any) the police would give to me stopping on the hard shoulder, usually under a bridge to put my roof up.

Most fridays I'm there on the M40.. about 6pm =)

I was wondering how long before one of you poor coupe owners (that do not get the joy of top down driving) would chime in. :poke:

It's okay mate, I'll take 100 soaks to get that wonderful time in the sun. :D :D :D
